Parikia is situated on a small hill overlooking the port of Paros, the island’s port with lovely old town famous for its historic ruins, churches and fairytale-like whitewashed windmills. 🏡 Absolutely enjoyed strolling the labyrinth like narrow, cobbled and painted cute alleyways. Tourist area as well as locals still live here, they open their business in the morning and close their shops for a few hours mid day. Paroikia is charming old town with its historic ruins, churches and picturesque corners. 🐈 🌺 Frankish Castle was built in the 1200s by the Venetian Sanoudo family on the site of the ancient acropolis in Paroikia, capital of Paros island. It’s not a real castle in Parikia of Paros, it’s named “kastro” (meaning castle) where there are some ancient walls and remains of a tower that used to be part of the castle. Wine tasting in Paros! Moraitis Winery is located just a 10 minute walk from Naoussa village. They are open from 12:00-20:00, Mondays to Saturdays and offer wine tasting with lunch or a cosy dinner. I visited alone and was clueless as to how the wine tasting would work. So here’s a little insider: 🍷Basically you can choose from a list of options as soon as you get there. You can choose either: red, white and rosé 2 whites and a rosé 3 whites etc, they have great options. Because I am not a fan of red I chose two whites and a rosé and this cost me just €10! I got to try three half glasses of wine, with a small platter of cheese and tomato for one. When they bring the wine over they tell you some information about the wine and also give you a leaflet with the information that you can can keep. I highly recommend this as an activity if you’re visiting Paros, it’s great for solo travellers, groups and family’s. We collected our Seat automatic in the afternoon and (almost) ventured to a nearby village called Prodromos. Unfortunately, Mobbes mistakenly drove onto a dirt road and ended up on a tight corner. It took the better half of an hour (ok maybe not but it felt like it) to get out. A Parosian farmer magically appeared out of thin air and helped guide us out, using a mixture of (loud) Greek noises and (even louder) hand gestures. When I got back in the car, Mobbes declared “NO MORE TINY VILLAGES” so we went to Lefkes, a slightly less tiny village with clearer roads leading to it. #eurotrip I am back with yet another post on Acropolis because I can’t get over with it! The Acropolis of Athens is the most striking and complete ancient Greek monumental complex still existing in our times. It is situated on a hill of average height (156m) that rises in the basin of Athens. Its overall dimensions are approximately 170 by 350m. The hill is rocky and steep on all sides except for the western side, and has an extensive, nearly flat top. Strong fortification walls have surrounded the summit of the Acropolis for more than 3,300 years. The first fortification wall was built during the 13th century BC, and surrounded the residence of the local Mycenaean ruler. Let’s be honest: July and August are peak season in Greece! Santorini hotel prices triple, and the Oia sunset is packed to the point of suffocation. Athens often faces heatwaves over 40℃, and being outdoors under the sun can cause heatstroke in minutes. Be mentally prepared before you go! But! Summer days are very long, perfect for swimming in the Aegean Sea. The Athens-Epidaurus Festival runs from June to August, featuring ancient Greek plays. “All of Greece, One Culture” offers immersive performances at major historic sites in July and August. Crete’s Chania Dance Days run from July 20 to August 2, and the Peloponnese Beer Festival is from July 31 to August 2. #firsttimermistakes I spent a month island hopping in Greece in June. I have visited Greece many times before and been to a couple of islands each time. This time it was planned in October 2025, however it's very difficult to find ferry days and times at this time of year. It was a brilliant month flying into Milos, moving to Kimolos the next day, 3 nights there and on to Serifos. From there to Antiparos before moving to Iraklia and Amorgos and flying back from Paros. The mistake was not investigating ferry days/boats from every island. This resulted in travelling from Serifos to Paros (in order to get to Antiparos) on a day when there were no direct ferries. I had to use Seajets costing over £100 per person whereas the day before I could have got a Blue Star for £7 (it may be slightly slower but they are very stable boats so less chance of seasickness). Also be aware that if you pick a smaller boat, the winds may prevent you from travelling. I have since discovered that you can find historical timetables online so that you see the days they are likely to travel to various islands. Is it the much-admired Santorini, or Athens, Mykonos, Ios, Naxos, Rhodes, Corfu, Hydra, Paros, or Crete? Besides the mainland, Greece has over 200 islands; one could spend a lifetime and still not see them all. It also boasts numerous ancient sites, befitting its status as one of the four ancient civilizations. I myself have only visited a dozen or so, some large, some small. We spent the final leg of our Greece trip on Ios, where we rented a new, little white villa up on the hillside. The interior was fully equipped, and the outdoor courtyard featured a private swimming pool and a hot tub. The biggest surprise was the breathtaking view: from every bedroom, the living room, and the courtyard, you could gaze out over the beautiful Aegean Sea and spot neighboring islands like Santorini and Paros. We enjoyed stunning sunrises and sunsets, as well as the twinkling lights of the town below. It's an 8-minute drive to the downtown square and 15 minutes to the beach. Both areas are bustling with restaurants and shops, and there are supermarkets too, making it incredibly convenient. Strolling through the cobblestone alleys has a uniquely charming vibe, and iconic blue-and-white churches are everywhere. If you're into archaeology, you can also check out the ancient ruins.
