Australia looked easy to plan. Then I started researching. That's when I realized a few small mistakes could have a big impact on the trip: 🦘 Underestimating distances On the map, everything seems close enough. In reality, Australia is huge. A day trip that looks simple can mean hours of driving, and flying between cities is often much more realistic than trying to do everything by road. ☀️ Thinking the sun is "just like everywhere else" One thing I noticed while living in Queensland was how quickly you can feel the sun. Even on cooler or cloudy days, UV levels can be extremely high. Sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water quickly became part of my daily routine. 🥪 Forgetting Australia's strict biosecurity rules I was much more careful packing for Australia than for any other country I'd visited. Fresh food, seeds, wooden items, and even muddy hiking boots can cause problems if you don't declare them. It's one of those things that's much easier to think about before you leave home than when you're standing at customs. The more I travel, the more I realize that the best trips don't happen because nothing goes wrong. For the first time, we are going to take an automated bus, and we are excited about it. We will catch it from the end of the No. 9 Tube line to go to Terminal 3. It leaves every 30 minutes. 🔔 Only 6 people can board, and if you have large luggage, you cannot access it. The seats are comfortable and secure, and they have seatbelts. 🚍 The ride is pleasant, and I get a thrill thinking about how many times I have seen and read about this moment in sci-fi books—and now I am experiencing it.🖊️ As an ecological science fiction writer, I was very excited about this moment; I would say that one of the reasons I wanted to travel to China was to try the automated bus. And wow, I felt so safe and inspired. I noted how the future can be safer if we leave many human decisions to technology. If you want to enjoy this experience in more touristy areas, you have other active autonomous (self-driving) bus services operating in Guangzhou, the city has multiple driverless minibus routes operated by technology companies such as WeRide and Pony.ai. #easytravelpost Sometimes when I travel, I don’t want another packed itinerary. I just want greenery, fresh air, beautiful scenery and somewhere I can slow everything down — and the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha gave me exactly that. 🌿❤️ I spent my time wandering through the gardens without rushing, discovering completely different landscapes along the way. One moment I was surrounded by lake lagoon, lush tropical plants, then I was exploring arid gardens, and later I found myself inside the beautiful Tropical Display Dome. But my favourite moment was probably sitting around the lake, watching ducks swim and wander around while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. 🦆🌊 It felt so far removed from the busy Brisbane CBD. I took plenty of photos, but I also made myself put the phone away for a while and simply enjoy being there. For me, this place was more than a botanical garden — it was my little nature reset during my Brisbane trip. No rushing. No crowds. Just plants, wildlife, water, fresh air and plenty of time to breathe. 🌿✨ If you’re travelling Brisbane and need a break from the city, this is where I’d go to recharge. ❤️

Great Barrier Reef 🐠 The world's largest coral reef system, with thousands of reefs and extraordinary marine life. Snorkeling or diving here is one of Australia's signature experiences. Uluru (Ayers Rock) 🏜 A huge red sandstone monolith in the middle of Australia. It is deeply significant to the Anangu Aboriginal people and is spectacular at sunrise and sunset. Sydney Opera House 🏛 One of the world's most recognizable buildings and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its unusual sail-like architecture makes Sydney Harbour instantly recognizable. Daintree Rainforest 🌴 A spectacular tropical rainforest in Queensland and part of one of Australia's most ancient rainforest environments. Whitehaven Beach 🏖 Famous for exceptionally white silica sand and turquoise water in the Whitsundays. You can combine it with Great Barrier Reef activities. K'gari (Fraser Island) 🚙 One of the world's largest sand islands. You can drive 4WD vehicles directly along the beach, explore rainforest and see wild dingoes. Ningaloo Reef 🐋 In Western Australia, you can swim near whale sharks, along with turtles, manta rays and other marine life. Kakadu National Park 🐊 Huge wetlands, waterfalls, Aboriginal rock art and crocodiles. It is particularly interesting if you want to experience Australia's Indigenous history and wilderness together. Pink lakes 🩷 Australia has several spectacular pink/pinkish salt lakes. Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre, for example, can transform dramatically after significant rainfall. My recent trip to the Pink Lake in Western Australia was an absolute visual feast! 😍💗 The entire lake is a mesmerizing shade of pink, looking like a giant rose-colored mirror from a distance. It reflects the blue sky and white clouds so perfectly that the contrast feels almost surreal. ✨🌊 When the sun hits the water, the pink hues become even more vibrant, with a gentle shimmer across the surface. The combination of white salt crystals and sandy shores adds so much depth to the landscape. You can stroll along the bank, take your time with photos, or stand out on a sandbar surrounded by pink water for that perfect shot. 📸💛 As the light shifts, the interplay between the clouds and the sun creates a dramatic sky that, paired with the pink water, looks straight out of a movie scene. ☁️☀️ Having a car is definitely the way to go, as you can pull over right by the road for a close-up view. It wasn't too crowded, so I could really soak in the peaceful atmosphere. Looking out, the greenery along the shore and the distant hills make the whole scene feel incredibly open and healing. #mytravelwrap What a way to wrap up my Australia trip! 🇦🇺❤️ I flew Business Class from Sydney to Singapore Changi on the huge A380, and honestly, it felt like a little luxury escape in the sky. Before boarding, I spent some time at the SilverKris Business Lounge, enjoying the comfy modern space and, of course, the food! 😂🍽️ I went for everything from satay and seafood platters to cheese, desserts and drinks — definitely not the place to arrive hungry! Then came the A380 experience. Spacious Business Class seating, thoughtful amenities, great service and the chance to stretch out and relax made the long journey so comfortable. I ate, watched movies, enjoyed a few drinks, and eventually turned my seat into a lie-flat bed. ✈️😴 After an amazing Australia adventure, this was the perfect travel finale — good food, great service and luxury all the way back to Singapore. 🥂✨ Definitely a memorable way to end the trip! ❤️

If you’re planning a Gold Coast road trip, save Snapper Rocks on your itinerary! 📍🌊 Located at the southern end of the Gold Coast, our drive to Snapper Rocks took around 30 minutes, and even the journey there became part of my travel experience. 🚙 An unexpected surprise along the way, classic cars! During the drive, I kept spotting beautifully maintained classic cars on the road. Some looked like they had driven straight out of an old movie! 😂 I couldn’t resist taking a few photos whenever I had the chance. It made an ordinary drive much more memorable. But the real highlight started when we reached Snapper Rocks. 💙 🌊 Blue ocean, clear sky & incredible coastal views The moment I arrived, I was greeted by a beautiful blue ocean, clear winter sky and a strong, refreshing sea breeze. It was quite windy that day, but I actually loved it — the cool winter air made walking along the coast so comfortable. We were also lucky to arrive during low tide, which allowed me to walk down and explore the exposed rocks. 🪨🌊 Standing there with the waves right beside me and the open ocean in front of me was probably my favourite part of the visit. And with scenery like this… of course there had to be plenty of photos and selfies! 😂📸 ☀️ One lesson I learned: winter doesn’t mean no sunburn! The weather felt cool and comfortable, so I underestimated the Australian sunshine. I ended up getting a little sunburnt! 😅 Even during winter, sun protection is something I wouldn’t skip next time. 💡 My tips for visiting Snapper Rocks 📍 Location: Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta, Gold Coast 🚗 Our driving time: Around 30 minutes 🌊 Best experience: Coastal walk, ocean views & exploring the rocks at low tide 🕐 Time to spend: Around 1–2 hours for a relaxing visit and photos ☀️ Bring: Sunscreen, sunglasses, cap/hat and water 🌬️ Winter tip: It can get very windy along the coast, so bring a light jacket 🪨 Safety: Be careful on wet rocks and around changing tides and waves 📸 Photo tip: Blue-sky days and lower tide can give you some beautiful coastal shots For me, Snapper Rocks isn’t a place where you need a packed itinerary. #skylinescapes One of my favourite walks in Sydney was around Circular Quay, starting from the wharf and slowly making my way towards the State Library of NSW and Parliament House. I honestly kept stopping because there was always another beautiful view waiting for me. 😍 From the harbour, I could see the magnificent Sydney Harbour Bridge stretching across the water, ferries cruising through the bay, and the city skyline rising behind it. ⛴️🌊🌉 I loved the mix of Sydney’s iconic landmarks and architecture — Opera House, AMP Tower/Quay Quarter Tower, Australia Square, Sydney Tower Eye and the modern CBD skyscrapers — all coming together with the harbour as the backdrop. Then walking around the State Library and Parliament House, the scenery changed again with grand historic architecture mixed into the modern city. 🏛️ For me, this is what makes Sydney so special. You can walk just a few minutes and suddenly have a completely different postcard view. 📸 I could honestly spend hours around Circular Quay just walking, looking up, watching the ferries and taking photos.

I don't drive up to the Northern Beaches that often so finding out I could easily get to Narrabeen Lagoon from the Sydney CBD by bus made this walk much more appealing. I took the B1 from Wynyard to Narrabeen. The buses run frequently, so I actually recommend this option if you don't want to drive all the way north and worry about parking. 🥾 Narrabeen Lagoon Trail The full loop is around 8.4km, and I found it quite an easy and relaxing walk. There's no big climb or difficult section — it's mostly a well-formed shared trail around the lagoon. The 8km also went by pretty quickly because the scenery kept changing. There are shady bush sections, long boardwalks and plenty of open views across the lagoon, so it never felt like I was walking the same track for hours. Some of my favourite sections were actually the boardwalks right beside the water. On a clear day, the combination of blue sky, lagoon and bushland is beautiful. There are also plenty of spots where you can stop for a break and just sit by the water. 🐦 Plenty of wildlife along the way Keep an eye out for birds too. I found this little guy casually sitting on someone's chair and looking straight at me. The lagoon is surrounded by bushland and wetlands, so birdlife is pretty common around the trail. 👟 Who would I recommend this walk to? I'd recommend it if you want a decent-length walk without doing a proper strenuous hike. It's long enough that you definitely feel like you've exercised by the end but you don't have to deal with steep climbs, rock scrambling or difficult terrain. I took my time, stopped for photos and enjoyed the views rather than trying to finish it quickly. 🍟 Calamari & chips after 8km = YES After finishing the loop, I stopped at H2O Cafe by the lagoon for a quick bite. I ordered the calamari and chips and both were bloody fresh. The calamari was crispy without being heavy, and the chips were freshly cooked and crunchy too. 🚌 My tip if you're coming from Sydney CBD You really don't need a car for this one. Take the B1 from Wynyard to Narrabeen, walk the lagoon loop, stop for something to eat, then take the B1 back towards the city. Many people think that a trip to Australia requires a huge budget. I'll share the real costs of our 15-night trip. ✈️ Flight costs 84,000 rubles per person from Moscow to Melbourne and back from Sydney to Moscow on China Airlines with a layover in Chengdu. I bought the tickets on trip.com. 🏠 Accommodation costs around 140,000 rubles. We rented a self-catering apartment in Melbourne and stayed in hotels on the way to Sydney. In Sydney, I chose an apartment in a building with a pool on booking.com. By city:📍 Melbourne — 5 nights: ₽56,698📍 Malua Bay — 1 night: ₽7,582📍 Painesville — 1 night: ₽11,381📍 Sydney — 8 nights: USD 775 🚗 Car rental — USD 1,200 for 16 days. We picked up the car in Melbourne and returned it in Sydney. The price included full insurance and a second driver. Important: returning the car in another city approximately doubles the rental price. ⛽ Gasoline: USD 278🛣 Toll roads, parking, and late return fee: USD 206 🍽 Food. We mostly cooked breakfast and dinner at home, which saved us a lot of money. We stopped for a snack during the day. On average, lunch per person cost around $15-20. In total, we spent about $1,120 on restaurants and groceries for four people over 16 days. 🐧 Tours and Entertainment: A big plus of Australia is that you can see so many incredible places for free, especially if you travel by car. The only paid activity we chose was to see the penguins in Melbourne—1,730 rubles. I bought the ticket on trip.com. 💡 In the end, Australia wasn't as inaccessible as it seemed. The biggest expenses are flights, accommodation, and car rental. But nature, beaches, national parks, and stunning views are often accessible completely free of charge.
