Achi Village has planted many "sanshoku hanamomo" trees that bloom in three colors: red, white, and pink. It is an unusual flowering tree that blooms with flowers of different colors on one tree. It is said that it has not yet been clarified why different colored flowers bloom on the same tree.

We took a trip to Nagano on April 20, 2026. Along the drive, the entire route was beautifully lined with peach blossoms in three colors: white, pink, and red, which is exactly why it's called Hanamomo Kaido (Peach Blossom Route). Originally, we planned to visit Hanamomo no Sato, a popular stop for everyone traveling this way. However, seeing the heavy traffic, we decided to skip it and keep driving. As it turned out, the entire road was overflowing with peach blossoms! Eventually, we stumbled upon a breathtaking photo spot with endless views that rivaled Hanamomo no Sato. It was just a short drive past the main spot, with a village situated on the right side. It was uncrowded and absolutely perfect for photography enthusiasts like us. After our photo stop here, we continued our drive and saw beautiful peach blossoms lining the road the whole way—truly living up to the name Hanamomo Kaido (Peach Blossom Route). 📸 The spot where we took these photos is located along the Seinaiji River in the Seinaiji area, Achi Village, Shimoina District, in southern Nagano Prefecture. On May 4, 2025, I went to the #Hanamomomatsuri festival during Golden Week. This year, because of the cold weather in April, the lady at the shop told me that the flowers were blooming later than usual. This was my first time seeing a flower peach, but the petals overlap like double cherry blossoms, and it is a very beautiful and gorgeous flower. The flower peach blossoms planted on both sides of the road were very beautiful from a distance and up close. The flowers came in three colors: white, light pink, and dark pink. Even flowers blooming on the same branch had different colors such as white and pink, making them colorful and mysterious flowers. On this day, there was a strong wind blowing at times, but the petals flew up and I was able to take a very emotional video. I was able to spend a wonderful time. My elderly mother (80 years old) was with me, but she had no problem walking and was happy to be able to take good photos with the flowers and her grandchildren. I think it would probably take about 30 minutes to go around the shortest route. If you want to see more, you can walk further. There is plenty of parking, and security guards are on hand (1000 yen). There are also toilets. It was during the Peach Blossom Festival, so there were stalls selling meat, soba, ice cream, dumplings, etc. The large dumplings grilled over charcoal were very delicious. The same shop also sells plum juice. The owner, who likes unusual things, tried it, and said that the plum juice was a delicious, sour juice that was somewhere between a plum and a peach. In the back, there was a shop selling seedlings, and they also sold many peach seedlings. The shop staff were very kind and gave us a lot of information.

Achi Village, located on the border between Nagano and Gifu Prefectures, is known for its "best starry sky in Japan," but recently it has become more well-known as "Hanamomo no Sato." (I'm one of those who only recently found out about this...) There are 5,000 flowering peaches of three varieties, red, white, and pink, planted in Hanamomo no Sato. Unlike regular peaches, flowering peaches are not edible, but are for decoration, so local people took the trouble to plant them. I'm very grateful. The flowering peaches that bloom in Hirugami Onsen in early April will increase in altitude over time, and bloom in Hanamomo no Sato in late April. The flowering peaches planted in large numbers on both sides of the river and in the mountains are truly magnificent, and I'm speechless. It really feels like a paradise. To take a photo of the whole of Hanamomo no Sato, you have to go from the top of the cliff on the other side. Before crossing the bridge with the carp streamers, take the road in front of Cafe Yamanaka on the opposite side of the road and walk for about 10 minutes up a steep hill (during this period, cars are not allowed to enter). This is also recommended if you have the stamina. Achi Village is famous as the "village with the most beautiful starry sky in Japan" certified by the Ministry of the Environment, but it is also the "number one paradise in Japan" with about 10,000 peach blossoms in spring. The best time to see them is usually from mid-April to early May. *Due to global warming, the time varies each year. Achi Village is a small village, but the best time to see them actually varies slightly depending on the location. It is a relatively low-altitude village, so the best time to see them is during the day. Kami Onsenkyo is the first place in Achi Village to bloom, from early to mid-April. Tsukigami Onsenkyo, commonly known as the "flowering peach village," blooms from mid-April to early May. The "flowering peach road" along National Route 256 blooms from late April onwards.
