White Swan Hotel

This is our second stay at White Swan Hotel, and the experience was even better than the first. This time, I came with my partner and we chose a Deluxe River View room. Room 2105 had an amazing location with a fantastic, expansive view. The room layout was very well-designed; everything felt comfortable and convenient. Housekeeping was prompt, and we had turndown service every evening, so the room was spotless whenever we returned. The hotel's breakfast buffet was excellent. Although we couldn't get a reservation for the signature morning tea this time, we did manage to book dinner at Yu Tang Chun Nuan, and the food quality was truly outstanding. Even with a long wait, it was absolutely worth it. Right out the hotel's back door is Shamian Park, and across from Shamian is the Link Plaza, making dining and shopping incredibly convenient. I especially love the cocktail buns from Cui Hua Restaurant – they taste just like the bread from my childhood, great value for money. The hotel's location is superb, making it easy to visit attractions like Yongqing Fang, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, and Cultural Park; we walked to all of them. White Swan was Guangzhou's first five-star hotel, opening in 1983. Decades later, the hotel is still meticulously maintained, with every detail reflecting the high standards expected of an established five-star property. It truly lives up to its reputation as a symbol of Guangzhou. I believe that on my next visit to Guangzhou, I will still choose the White Swan Hotel, because a classic endures through generations.

Facilities: Although this hotel opened in the 80s, the rooms have been beautifully renovated and don't feel old-fashioned at all. My deluxe king room with city view was 60 square meters, truly spacious! They thoughtfully kept the old-style power outlets in the room, so you can charge your phone directly whether you have a British or European plug. I've stayed in many five-star hotels, but this was genuinely the first time I'd seen a scarf and tie organizer like this. I guess I'm a bit unworldly! The room also included a guide to the nearby Shamian Island, with two recommended jogging routes – a 12-minute beginner route and a 30-minute advanced route – plus a guide to exploring Guangzhou. Service: White Swan truly showed me what a five-star hotel experience is all about. It's not just about excellent facilities, but also the embodiment of exceptional service. As China's first five-star hotel, their service is absolutely top-notch. Today, it was raining in Guangzhou, and from the moment I got out of the car and entered, there was staff ready to help put my umbrella into a cover. During my stay, all takeout orders were delivered to my room door by guest relations staff. When I called, they addressed me by my surname, and my request for ice was handled incredibly promptly, arriving immediately. Guangzhou gets a lot of rain, and umbrellas were always available for the walk to the garden and fitness center. It's standard for hotel gyms to provide towels and bathrobes, and some high-end commercial gyms even offer workout clothes. But I was genuinely seeing for the first time a hotel providing guests with running shoes and disposable socks! The shoes were Decathlon's dedicated running shoes, available in different sizes for men and women. This gives guests who might not have packed for a workout, or are staying on short notice, a chance to exercise! It's incredibly thoughtful; after staying in so many five-star hotels, this was the first time I'd encountered such a service.
