Thornbury Castle - A Relais & Chateaux Hotel

Staying at the medieval Sanbury Castle was a delightful surprise. Located near Bristol, the environment is quiet and serene, with a truly immersive castle atmosphere. The courtyard gardens are exquisite and photogenic, the spa offers a comfortable and relaxing experience, and the rooms are stylishly vintage. The overall ambiance is tranquil and soothing. The surrounding area is the old town's main street, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a coffee break. The service is attentive and thoughtful, and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it's ideal for a short getaway to unwind.

It's a real castle you can stay in and explore at your leisure. It seems to have been built in the 16th century (equivalent to the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty) by the Duke of Buckingham of the Clare family. It hosted Henry VIII and Queen Anne Boleyn. The rooms are very classic and luxurious. Breakfast is free for hotel guests, while dinner requires reservations. The castle itself also has several gardens and vegetable gardens, all very scenic. I especially loved the huge lounge next to the reception area; the translucent green windows were so soothing. The rooms also offer complimentary British specialties like milk, biscuits, and pear juice. Personally, I feel it's a dream hotel that fulfills my castle dreams! (❁´◡`❁)*✲ﾟ*

A beautiful medieval castle. Excellent room. Magnificent bed and toiletries. Fast Wi-Fi. The breakfast is excellent, definitely worth it. And plan at least an hour for it. There's nothing else to do in the city besides the castle and cathedral, so don't even go there. You can rent a Tudor costume at the hotel. 40 pounds per costume. ;) They don't allow you to light a fireplace in the room. :( Dinner: On the one hand, excellent service, the best I've experienced in England. A very beautiful dining room. On the other hand, the prices are high, and the dishes are very small. Mixed feelings. :)) However, if you live here, you have no choice. :))

I've always had a soft spot for historic castle hotels when traveling in Europe, so how could I miss Thornbury Castle, part of the Relais & Châteaux hotel group? It's less than a two-hour drive from Birmingham. Thornbury Castle is currently the only Tudor-era castle in England where you can stay, and its history is fascinating. The Duke of Buckingham built this beautiful castle, which Henry VIII seized as his palace. The rooms are named after historical figures, including the Henry VIII Suite, where he once stayed. We booked the Henry VII Suite and the Mary, Queen of Scots Suite—both incredibly luxurious! The castle is beautiful whether illuminated at night or against a backdrop of blue skies and white clouds; every view is picturesque! It must have a different kind of charm under overcast skies!

This is a real castle of the Duyi Dynasty, a very special experience. The nearest train station is Bristol Parkway Station, which takes about 20 minutes by taxi. The castle actually does not cover a large area, but it is still exquisite, and the newly renovated modern bathroom is large. It is recommended to book a higher-end room with a large area and a four-poster bed. Each room has its own historical introduction. Dinner is not cheap, and you must buy a set meal, although it is also exquisite fine dining. But compared with high-end restaurants outside, the price-performance ratio is average. There is no way, you can only eat here after moving in. So remember to include the food and beverage expenses and the transportation costs to and from the station in the total budget for each night. Most of the castle staff are very young and have a good service attitude. The check-out time is very strict, and it feels like you can't delay it for a minute.

A rare experience in life, staying in an English castle for the first time. We stayed in the castle owner's room. Although it was a bit scary at night and the neighborhood was too desolate, the beauty of the castle made everything worth it. It is recommended that you bring two more children with you next time. It will be more lively when there are more people, hahaha.
