The Hon Thom cable car is not just transport - the ride itself is one of the main reasons to go. It takes about 15 minutes one way and covers almost 8 km over the sea, with views of the An Thoi archipelago, fishing boats, beaches, and long open stretches of water below. It is even in the Guinness World Records, which already tells you this is more than a simple ride. A few practical things really matter here. Buy the ticket online if you can, because in busy periods the queue can easily take 30-40 minutes. The cable car also has a midday break, so it is better to plan around that and not assume it runs all day without pauses. The usual operating windows are 09:00-11:30 and 13:30-17:00. If you care about the views, try to stand or sit on the right side on the way to Hon Thom. This is also not just “cable car only.” The standard ticket includes the round-trip ride, Aquatopia Water Park, and Exotica Park. Aquatopia is the big water park on the island, while Exotica adds rides and attractions beyond the beach and slides. But the good thing is that you do not have to spend the whole day on rides - you can also just go down to the beach, swim, relax, and enjoy the island at a slower pace. Another useful thing is that you are not stuck there with only one food option. On Hon Thom there are cafes, restaurants, and food court-style places too, so you can easily stop for drinks, a proper meal, or just a quick break depending on how you plan the day. That is why Hon Thom works well for different kinds of travelers. If you want water slides and attractions, you have them. If you want a more relaxed day, you can just focus on the beach and the sea. Either way, it makes much more sense to treat this as a half-day or full-day outing, not as a very quick stop. The cable car is already memorable on its own, but once you get to the island, there is enough to make the whole trip feel complete. #phuquoc #honthom #honthomcablecar #scenicride #islandexperience #vietnamtravel #myitinerary #travel2026

🇻🇳 PHU QUOC 103 — A Vietnamese island perfect for "true relaxation" 🏝️

If you want a change from the hustle and bustle of cities to beaches, sunsets, seafood, and a relaxed holiday in Vietnam, consider Phu Quoc (Phú Quốc) 🌴

Located in southern Vietnam, this island is more suited to relaxation than a whirlwind tour of tourist spots.

Morning: beach
Midday: find a restaurant or cafe
Afternoon: island hopping
Evening: find a spot to watch the sunset
Night: seafood dinner

This kind of plan fills up a full day 😂

But honestly, Phu Quoc isn't as beautiful as the promotional photos suggest. The sea conditions depend heavily on the season and weather. Therefore, choosing the right time to travel is quite important.

⸻

🏖️ 01 — Sao Beach

One of Phu Quoc's most famous beaches.

Sao Beach (Bãi Sao) boasts soft-colored sand, beautiful clear water, and a distinct tropical island atmosphere.

If you want stunning ocean photos, this is the perfect spot.

However, if you go during peak season, the atmosphere might not be as peaceful as expected, and the beach condition may differ from the images you see on social media at certain times of the year.

So, don't go expecting "it to look like a postcard every day."

Going on a sunny day is truly beautiful 🌊

⸻

⭐ 02 — Starfish Beach

Another unique spot is Starfish Beach.

As the name suggests, its highlight is the starfish, which can be found in some shallow areas.

But there's something very important to note:

Do not touch, do not take the starfish out of the water, and do not use them as photo props.

Starfish are marine animals and need to be in the right environment.

You can go see them and take pictures, but it's best to leave them in the sea. 🐚

And the number of starfish isn't guaranteed to be high every day you visit.

⸻

🚤 03 — Hon Thom

If you want to see Phu Quoc from a true island escape perspective, consider dedicating a day to Hon Thom.

You can travel by the Hon Thom Cable Car from the An Thoi area.

Along the way, you'll see the sea and small islands from a high vantage point.

The cable car itself is part of the trip's experience, as the views along the way are quite beautiful, especially on clear days ☀️

Hon Thom also has beaches and various activities to choose from.

However, it's recommended to check the weather and operating hours before you go, as activities on the island depend on the weather.

⸻

🌿 04 — Phu Quoc National Park

If you're tired of the sea, don't think Phu Quoc has nothing to do.

The island also has Phu Quoc National Park, a large natural area with diverse forests and ecosystems.

It's perfect for those who want a change of scenery from beaches to nature.

But if your trip's goal is… "Staying in a resort and by the sea" doesn't necessarily mean you have to cram this place into your itinerary.

Phu Quoc has the advantage of offering a fairly distinct travel style. 🌿

⸻

🦐 WHAT TO EAT

When on an island, seafood is a must!

🦀 Ham Ninh Crab

Crab from the Ham Ninh area is an interesting local delicacy.

They may not be as large as the crabs you see in Thai seafood restaurants, but the meat is sweet and perfect for a simple meal.

🐟 Herring Salad

Another local dish worth trying is Gỏi cá trích, or Phu Quoc-style herring salad.

It has a different taste and texture from the Vietnamese food tourists are used to.

If you're not comfortable eating raw fish or seafood, ask the restaurant how the fish is prepared.

🧂 Phu Quoc Fish Sauce

Phu Quoc is famous for its fish sauce.

If you enjoy cooking or like souvenirs, check out the local products and buy some to take home.

These souvenirs represent the essence of this island more than typical souvenirs.

🦐 Seafood

And of course, fresh seafood is a must-have for a meal.

Shrimp, crab, fish, shellfish – choose according to the restaurant and your budget.

It's recommended to check prices before ordering, especially at restaurants that charge by weight.

⸻

🌅 WHAT TO DO — Watch the Sunset

One activity that doesn't cost a lot of money but is worth doing is watching the sunset.

The west side of the island is perfect for evenings.

Find a beach bar or restaurant with an ocean view, order a drink, and watch the sky change color.

No need to rush off anywhere else.

This is why Phu Quoc is more suitable for a relaxing getaway than a marathon trip ☀️

⸻

🌴 4 DAYS 3 NIGHTS

DAY 1 — HELLO PHU QUOC 🏝️

Arrival on the island → Check-in → Long Beach → Sunset → Seafood dinner

Keep the first day's schedule low-impact.

DAY 2 — BEACH DAY 🌊

Sao Beach → Beach activities → Cafe → Return to accommodation → Sunset

This day is all about relaxation.

DAY 3 — ISLAND ESCAPE 🚤

An Thoi → Hon Thom Cable Car → Island hopping → Return in the evening

Have a backup plan if the weather is bad.

DAY 4 — SLOW MORNING ☕

Breakfast → Souvenir shopping → Coffee → Check-out → Departure

It's not recommended to include activities far away before your flight, as you should allow time for travel from your accommodation to the airport.

⸻

💡 TIPS Before Traveling

📌 Choose accommodation zones that match your travel style — for convenience, check the location before booking, don't just choose based on the hotel.

📌 Check the season before booking — the sea conditions vary depending on the side of the island throughout the year.

📌 Check the weather before booking an island trip — rainy or rough seas may change your plans for marine activities.

📌 Don't touch starfish ⭐ — it's best to observe and photograph them from underwater.

📌 Bring sunscreen ☀️ — the sun on the island is stronger than you think.

📌 Check seafood prices before ordering 🦐 — especially dishes priced by weight.

⸻

💰 BUDGET

Phu Quoc offers a wide range of travel options:

🏨 Accommodation — from budget hotels to beachfront resorts.

🍜 Food — local restaurants are affordable, but seafood restaurants or resorts will be more expensive.

🚕 Transportation — costs depend on distance and type of transportation chosen.

🚤 Island hopping — budget for boat trips or tours.

🎟️ Cable cars / attractions — additional costs apply depending on the activity.

If you're traveling on a mid-range budget, not staying in luxury accommodations and not booking tours every day... A budget of approximately 1,500–3,500 THB per person per day is a rough guideline, but actual costs depend on accommodation, activities, and season.

⸻

❤️ In short:

Phu Quoc is more suitable for those who want to relax than those who want to see everything.

If you want to wake up early to walk on the beach,
sit a cafe,
swim,
eat seafood,
watch the sunset,
and then return to a nice hotel,

this island is perfect 🌴

However, if you prefer old towns, museums, shopping, or want a new place to check in every 1-2 hours, you might find that Phu Quoc doesn't have enough to offer.

And remember that beautiful beaches aren't always the same in every season.

Therefore, before booking, check the weather, season, and location of your accommodation.

If you choose the right time and don't make your itinerary too packed,

4 days and 3 nights in Phu Quoc can be a very relaxing trip 🏝️☀️

Save this post and come back to it when planning your trip ✈️
