voco Guangzhou Shifu by IHG

Is our first time in GZ and we had booked a few rooms here. This place is classy and their front desk service is excellent. There was a hiccup with one of our rooms and a male manager acted quickly to provide excellent service recovery. We were very pleased with his quick response but forgot to get his name. Breakfast spread was great as well! This place is conveniently located near to yong qing fang and great for families with young kids. The drop-off area staffs were also great and attentive to guests. The only downside was a very pushy manager - Lily Li, whom keep pestering us to write a 5 stars review for her during our check-out. Despite telling her I’m v busy looking over my kids and working on my phone, she just stand beside me abd insist that it’s only 1 min review and emphasised her name to be on my review. I do not like pushy rep and what’s more, the male manager whom handles us personally did not even ask for this favour. I still highly recommend voco!

The hotel is centrally located right on the pedestrian street, making it extremely easy to shop and find great food. While the hotel building itself is older, the rooms have been renovated in a beautiful, modern style. The hotel pays great attention to detail, providing us with complimentary soup, beverages, and beer. The staff were extremely helpful, and I would consider staying here again!

Decent hotel, only complain is probably the location, where surroundings may not be as clean and new, since it’s located at an old district. Got upgraded, friendly staff.

I love how near Voco Hotel is to the shopping district. You immediately have access to restaurants and shops as you exit the hotel. Easy check out too. Just drop the key. The hotel is also clean and the rooms are huge.

Overall a pleasant experience. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-maintained. One of the biggest advantages of this hotel is its location — it's just a short walk from Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, making it very convenient for shopping and dining. One thing that caught me by surprise was the surrounding neighborhood. The hotel is located within a very local part of Guangzhou, and the drive in takes you through residential streets lined with small shops and local businesses. I even passed a street where locals were collecting and selling cardboard boxes and recyclables. It was quite different from what I had expected for an international hotel, but it also offered a glimpse into everyday local life. During my stay, there was ongoing construction work in the area. As the access roads are relatively narrow, traffic could build up at times and it sometimes took a while for taxis and ride-hailing vehicles to reach the hotel. This may be something to keep in mind if you are arriving with a lot of luggage or are travelling on a tight schedule. Service was a positive highlight. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I particularly appreciated the assistance with my luggage upon arrival and departure. One aspect that left me puzzled was the laundry facility. The hotel provides a self-service laundry room, but the machines are chargeable. As a frequent traveller in China, this was the first time I had encountered such an arrangement. In my experience, hotels typically either offer paid laundry services handled by the hotel or complimentary self-service laundry facilities for guests. This hotel seems to operate somewhere in between. What made the experience more confusing was that the charges were not clearly communicated beforehand. I only realised the machines required payment after starting to use them. Clearer signage or advance notice would help guests better understand the arrangement. Overall, voco Guangzhou offers spacious rooms, a convenient location near Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street and attentive service. The local surroundings, ongoing construction and paid self-service laundry were unexpected, but they are useful things for future guests to be aware of when planning their stay.

The room is very wide and comfortable. Able to place all luggage on the floor. They hotel so kind to being us hot taste soup every evening. Really missing the soup very much.

Definitely a hotel you should not miss. Massive rooms. Modern and classical notes on the room, well designed and highly functional for both leisure and business alike. Location is a 6/5 The moment you go out… Shops, shops, and more shops but food stalls and restaurants also. Super friendly and helpful staff, and do not forget to book with free breakfast… Massive spread from a fresh congee station, to steamed delicacies, noodle bar together with lots of fresh juices and includes your regular continental breakfast also with some twists. Will definitely come back here. There is also a pool :)
