Loved the historic vibe, the downtown location, and the rooftop bar. The desk attendant was very informative regarding the history of the building but the lobby was very "tired" and although they were clean and comfortable, the guest rooms were very small. Elevators were dirty.

It was supposedly the best hotel in town, but the elevator was broken, and breakfast consisted of just a Starbucks voucher. There were many homeless people around. The city was small and very clean.

The hotel is a historic building, home to many famous figures, including four presidents, such as Reagan. The interior is decorated in typical American historical style; although the decor is dated, it's still comfortable. Like most historic hotels, the rooms and bathrooms are small. It was a satisfactory stopover on the way to Billings. Badlands National Park is definitely worth seeing; the terrain is very interesting, especially the opportunity to experience it up close. I visited Mount Rushmore in the rain, and the Crazy Horse sculpture was very impressive. It's definitely worth experiencing. I hope the Crazy Horse sculpture is completed soon so I can climb it sometime.

Older building so that is a factor but all the moulding and doors are just painted over. Doors don't even seal properly so the light and noise form the hall comes through. Furniture is scratched up. Not family friendly. Seemed more like a party hotel with the bar and loud music till 2am. TVs had issues and our bed frame broke randomly in the middle of the night while sleeping. They moved us to a different room at 3am and gave us free Starbucks. If night life and bar are your thing this would be the place to stay.

We had a great, short stay at Alex Johnson. We went up to the roof top bar first. The weather was cold, so we sat inside at the bar. We had appetizers and drinks and everything was great. We then went down to the Irish bar which was a totally different vibe, but also had a great food and drinks. Our room was small, but in good condition and very clean. Overall, our stay was great and we would stay again.

I got a call from the property about an hour before check in letting me know they had double booked and I wouldn’t have my room available. Their team sprang into action and booked me a room at a neighboring property and refunded the reservation cost. In addition to the stay being at no cost, they even sent over a gift basket. Their actions proved to me that they truly put the customer first, even if they aren’t able to accommodate at their property. Amazing service recovery! You have earned a life long customer.

Parking - a joke, either pay $30 for (good quality) valet, or drop your belongings at the door, and have someone park two blocks away in a a garage Hotel has walls with exposed parts, as though renovation was never completed. Dirty mirrors in the room, toilet had a slight brown sludge mark at the base. (Nice shower/tub though!) Staff - Professional and friendly, 5/5 Connected to Paddys bar - 0/5, dont bother staying on weekends, everyone is SCREAMING outside hotel after midnight, ot in the HALLWAYS. Paid $150+30(valet) - not worth it, just stay at a holiday inn instead!
