Ponient Dorada Palace by PortAventura World

For a start beware of booking with trip. I booked for me and my 3 boys 14, 12, and 10 years old. When I got to the hotel they told me there would be an additional charge of 1500 euros for my 2 younger boys. So if the price looks cheap on trip please check with the hotel. As a single mother this was a terrible blow at the start of my holiday. The room was unclean, the hotel claims to had had a massive refurbishment however the only changes was the colour scheme in the living area of the room. The bathroom was the same as last year when we stayed with one addition, it was unclean. The main wardrobe in the living room had no hangers, I asked at reception and was told there was non to be had. There are now drawers in the apartment. They have taken away a cabinet under the tv and replaced it with two round tables that really serve no purpose. Even the dressing table had no drawers. There are two tables either side of the bed but no cabinets with drawers. I went to get a glass from the kitchen only to discover that the entire kitchen was devoid of equipment. Again I asked reception to be told I had to request the kitchen equipment. When the plates, etc arrived the cleaning lady dumped a box containing everything on the floor in the room. Not really what one would except from a “4” star hotel. The room was only cleaned every day at around 3pm. The floors were never washed, I had to ask for clean sheets, The bed wasn’t made properly and the bathroom never touched. I found out from one of the cleaning staff that there are only 10 cleaning staff on a morning and the 1 on an afternoon the poor staff couldn’t. It is impossible to get sunbeds at the pool. On a morning people start lining their bags containing towels at 7am then the pool is supposed to open at 9am. I went down a few times at 8.45 only to find the doors open and all sunbeds reserved with towels even though it states on the website that it is not permitted to reserve beds. Also the numbers of sunbeds at the pool is less than half of what it was last year when I stayed. The food in the restaurant was disgusting, absolutely full of grease, the children’s food was atrocious me and my kids tried eat there three times but couldn’t eat a thing. I complained to the manager but he was very rude and shrugged his shoulders when I explained the problem. I will not return to the hotel, I love Salou but not that terrible place. It is most definitely not a four star hotel. I wouldn’t even give it a two star. Photos of the bathroom. Just back from spending 6 nights in the hotel. The rooms where clean, and cleaned most days, staff where friendly and helpful. My only complaints are that the pool isn't heated and it was freezing cold. Also we where all inclusive and the lunch selection was pretty poor. Snack food was burgers, chips, hot dogs and chicken nuggets which isn't something that interested me. Location of the hotel isn't bad with access to shops within walking distance. Got woken early each day with hotel guests letting their kids run up the corridors screaming and shouting which isn't the hotels fault but meant we never had a lie on. Entertainment team where ok but everyday to do face painting and animal balloons during the day was pretty dull and boring for our kids. Would i go back? Yes i would. Will I no lol. I wouldn't like to be in this hotel during peak season because there wouldn't be enough space for everyone

Worst hotel we have ever stayed at. First was the room was not clean there was hair and sweets on the floor from previous guests. Second there was next to no activities for guests until 10pm which is no use when guests are up to do tours/theme park. There was not enough staff/seating/sunbeds for the amount of guests that were staying at the hotel. Towards the end of our stay food was not great at all, next to no selection most of it was just fish, staff stop caring about serving we waiting 5 minutes to be served at the bar because the staff was too busy gossiping between themselves. My husband has come home absolutely covered in bed bug bites. Nothing is done about neighbouring rooms when they are partying till stupid times in the morning. Have to stay it’s my first time abroad, has put a very good impression on going aboard this place. Honeymoon definitely let down here. How this place can be classed as a four star hotel I’ll never know.

We stayed a week here and loved it. The hotel and rooms were kept clean with rooms being cleaned daily. The staff were great and always helpful, they went above and beyond when my youngest cut under his eye and needed a+e. Food was great and the kids enjoyed the little treats like popcorn, sweets and choc fountain. There was a variety each night and always plenty there. The hotel is very close to salou centre and the beach so we walked there most days. The free shuttle to portaventura was a great bonus too plus 50% off oark tickets from the hotel. The kids enjoyed the pools but we did avoid mornings with the crazy sun bed wars! We went to the beach in the morning and always got a sun bed in the afternoon without the hassle. The kids club crew were amazing and the kids really enjoyed the club and entertainment with them. We spent a couple of hours at the rooftop pool, adults only, and it was stunning too, definitely recommend The only downfall we found was having a double bed for my 2 boys but at least they were tired and just slept. Overall we would highly recommend this hotel

We got a reasonable deal in the school holidays and with the theme park/water park included it was worth it. The hotel suited our young children fine. It does a get a bit annoying booking meal times but it wasn’t a massive issue. Food was nice, no problems there. The pool area around the kids pool does need some maintenance, especially as half of the sunbeds are on muddy grass, which is then taking into the pools by people walking around.
