The hotel was a big let-down, and not up to standard: 1. On the day we checked in (to room 1501), we had to ask for a room change. The shower not working, the toilet leaking, and there was a terrible smell of sewage. That smell permeated all the corridors that we used, so could not have been only from our toilet. If you check TripAdvisor, you will see that the problem has gone unsolved for over a year. The attitude of the reception staff was not good that evening, and we had to insist on a room with a balcony, or be fobbed off with one without. Because we had changed rooms we could not charge drinks to the room – the technology had not caught up. So I paid in cash, and continued to do so all week. That did not prevent them from trying to charge for drinks when we checked out. I wonder where my cash went to. 2. My partner had money stolen from her purse after she left it behind in the dining room. We suspect a particular waiter, but could not prove anything, so did not pursue it, in order not to spoil the holiday. 3. The evening meals could best be described as adequate, but not more. We expected more choice, and bigger portions. Two other guests told us that they ate out every night rather than take the hotel food. 4. Although it has 26 floors, with the potential for over 200 guests, the hotel has only two lifts. One had a capacity of 6 people, and the other 10, which is a bit too cosy when full. So waits for lifts were long, only to find the lift full sometimes. For those of us unable to climb the stairs 26 floors to the dining room, this was a real problem. 5. On Thursday 8th One of the lifts broke down with people inside. They were rescued, but it stayed out of order, halving the number of lifts available. This hotel is rated as four-star. It might once have been true, but is not now - it simply is not up to the required standard. I did not check this one before booking, as I usually do. I wish now that I had.
