Holiday Inn Express MACAU CITY CENTRE by IHG

Unlike hotels in mainland China, bottled water isn't provided daily. There's a water dispenser in the hallway for refills. After my shower, the front desk suddenly called, saying the smoke alarm went off and asking if anything happened. I said no. They asked if they could come up to check, and I told them it wasn't necessary and to only come if there was another problem. But they insisted they had to come as per their policy, so why even ask if they 'could' come? Anyway, there was nothing wrong; it was clearly an issue with their equipment. Please specify that the laundry room is chargeable and what the fees are. In mainland China, laundry rooms are typically free unless stated otherwise. I didn't take photos of the hotel, but it looks pretty much like the pictures. It's close to the bus stop, and about a 20-minute walk to St. Paul's Ruins. Oh, and when I checked in, there was some trash left from the previous guest that hadn't been cleaned up. It was just a plastic string, but it was still quite surprising. As for the toothbrush, I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but it shedding bristles while brushing was a bit ridiculous. For a weekend rate of over 800, I expected the disposable toiletries to be reliable.

I highly recommend Holiday Inn Express Macau. Its location is excellent. You can take the free shuttle bus from the border gate directly to Grand Lisboa, then it's just a ten-minute walk to the hotel. There are many great food options around the hotel; I tried some ********* beef noodles. MGM is a 15-minute walk away. The main bus terminal is also just 10 minutes away, and for 6 MOP, you can easily get to places like The Venetian, Rua do Cunha, and the seaside church.

Every staff member I encountered was incredibly friendly! There's a self-service water dispenser in the hallway, so it's very convenient to refill your bottle as much as you like. The Macau Peninsula is quite small, so it never takes too long to walk anywhere. I had a good experience staying here for one night.

I've stayed here before and it was okay, but this time it was absolutely terrible. I requested a high floor, and they gave me a top-floor room when I checked in. I was happy at first, but I found out why in the middle of the night. Besides the AC noise, there was a distinct, low-frequency humming sound, like living inside an airplane! This low-frequency noise wasn't present when I stayed on other floors before. I suspect it comes from the vibrations of large equipment on the roof. I'm sure the front desk knows about this, yet they still assigned this significantly flawed room to a Ctrip user. Furthermore, there was a persistent, cheap perfume smell in the room. Even with the door open for a long time, it wouldn't dissipate. I guess a previous guest spilled their cosmetics on the carpet, and it couldn't be thoroughly cleaned. It was really nauseating. They used to provide bottled water, but now they've even cut that. I wouldn't dare drink the tap water, so I had to go to a nearby supermarket to buy water. It was such a hassle.
