🇳🇴 EP.6 | Geiranger — A Small Village in the Fjord, Surrounded by Mountains and Waterfalls When talking about fjord-side villages that are iconic images of Norway, Geiranger is definitely on the list. 🇳🇴 This small village is located at the very end of Geirangerfjord, a fjord approximately 20 kilometers long and part of the West Norwegian Fjord Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What makes this place unique are the steep mountains, waterfalls cascading down cliffs, and old farmhouses clinging to the hillsides, creating a large natural backdrop with the small village hidden in the middle. 🏔️🌊 🌊 1. Geirangerfjord The main highlight of visiting Geiranger is seeing the fjord from many different angles. Taking a boat trip from the village will reveal high cliffs, waterfalls, and old farmhouses situated on the steep slopes along the fjord. The most famous spots are: 💦 Seven Sisters — 7 waterfalls 💦 The Suitor — the waterfall on the opposite bank 💦 The Bridal Veil — a waterfall with thin streams resembling a veil 🏡 2. Stroll through the village The heart of Geiranger has narrow streets and alleys lined with wooden houses, shops, cafes, and restaurants. The atmosphere is more suited for a leisurely stroll than rushing to see everything. ☕🤍 🏞️ 3. Flydalsjuvet One of the best viewpoints for photographing Geirangerfjord. From the top, you can see the fjord stretching between the mountains and the village of Geiranger below. If you have time, this should definitely be on your itinerary. 📸 ⛰️ 4. Dalsnibba For an even higher view, you can ascend to Dalsnibba / Geiranger Skywalk, approximately 1,500 meters above sea level. On a clear day, you can see… The Geirangerfjord and surrounding mountains offer expansive views. However, the road to Dalsnibba is a toll road and closed during winter, so it's advisable to check road conditions before traveling. 🥾 5. Fosseråsa Hiking enthusiasts can start their trail from the village and hike up to Storsæterfossen. A special feature is the ability to hike behind the waterfall when conditions permit. 💦🥾 🚗 Transportation Geiranger is on the Norwegian Scenic Route Geiranger–Trollstigen, which connects the mountain areas and fjords. It can be reached by car, seasonal bus, or ferry, with routes and services varying seasonally. Another beautiful option is a Fjord Cruise from Geiranger to see the Seven Sisters and old fjord-side farms from the water. 🌤️ Best time to visit? Summer: Ideal for boat trips, hiking, and enjoying the views to the fullest. Autumn: The colors of nature are beautiful, and the atmosphere is quieter. Winter: The fjords change, the mountains are covered in snow, and there are fewer tourists. However, some roads and activities are limited. 📍 Who is Geiranger for?
