We absolutely loved Castle Hill Bungalow, and it was a real highlight of our stay in Sri Lanka. First - the location could not have been better. It is located high on a hill overlooking the lake and Temple of the Tooth, so is walking distance from Kandy city centre (about 10-15 mins walk, or a short tuk-tuk ride) but is incredibly peaceful and a wonderful leafy retreat to return to, away from the hustle and bustle below. The gardens are lush and beautiful, and the infinity pool is incredible - as you swim you look over the city, with a great view of a giant Buddha on a hill opposite. We had breakfast in the peaceful garden, listening to birdsong and overlooking the Temple of the Tooth. The bungalow itself (which has just 4 rooms) is also wonderful and full of character. It actually looks better than in the photos. We had what I can only imagine must be the best room in the place - it was absolutely huge (a triple, at the front on the left side) and light, with its own veranda (which was lovely for reading and having a cuppa). Our friends' room (a double at the back, on the right side) was nice but not as light (or as spacious). The four-poster beds were incredibly comfortable and we all slept so well there. Kettle in the rooms is also great. The staff (Chimandu, Akila and one other whose name I've forgotten) were delightful and attentive. They were very welcoming and really made us feel at home. The only downside was the gate was locked when we returned from dinner. Fortunately we knew the hotel was linked with another hotel nearby so we asked them for assistance. A note for management: it is worth installing a key safe or giving guests a key, or at least a phone number to call, as we could have been locked out for a long time. One other small thing is it would be helpful to have more facilities for hanging/putting away clothes (but that is a small point). All in all, a superb place to stay if you like places with character, lovely gardens, and like to be within walking distance of the city without any of the noise or pollution.

This Villa is a beautiful property - an old Governor's bungalow, it overlooks Kandy - and the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Decorated in the Colonial style, it has fabulous gardens, and is maintained by staff that really took good care of us. We walked into town rather than take a tuk-tuk. Since there are very very rooms here, the property was wholly ours during our stay! I have to go back someday....

The design is elegant and inviting, with beautifully maintained spaces that reflect both comfort and luxury. Our room was spotless, tastefully decorated, and offered a serene retreat. The location is breathtaking! The amenities were top-notch, and the location was perfect for exploring the area. We especially appreciated the little touches—fresh flowers in the lobby, prompt room service, and the relaxing ambiance throughout.
