Alinea: Chicago's ultimate molecular gastronomy theater
Location and Spatial Deconstruction
Alinea is located in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood (address: 1723 N Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60614). The restaurant was transformed from a 1920s theater into a three-story immersive experimental space by Goettsch Partners. The main dining area, "The Black Box," features a magnetic levitation table system with 300 programmable scent diffusers embedded in the ceiling. The second floor's "Gallery of Memories" has walls made of liquid crystals that change colors with each course. The top-floor "Apocalypse Booth" is accessed through a hidden bookcase and is filled with bioluminescent moss and holographic projection installations.
