“Zhang yuan” shikumen houses

Zhang Yuan was built by Wuxi's wealthy Zhang Shuhe as a private garden in 1882 ,formerly known as "Zhang's taste Chun garden.' After a gradual expansion and becoming the largest operating private garden in Shanghai. Part of this garden had been renovated to embrace essences of western culture, whilst the remaning sections still cater for residents. This part of the city hold an imppeccable balance between the contrastic cultures. 

“Jin’an” villa

Jingan villa was built in 1932 and named after its location on Temple Road (now Nanjing West Road). The villa covers an area of 2.5 hectares with there are 193 buildings and 3000 residents.

Shanghai “shikumen”museum

This is a tiny area which aims to capture what life was like 100 years ago in a traditional Shikumen house. There are about five rooms decked out with antiques and period furniture that give you an idea about what life was like for those who originally occupied the houses.

Taikang Road “Tianzifang Art Street”

Taikang Road was initially a Sunday market before its renovations took place 16 years ago. It has now become Shanghai's most artistic street where you can find cafes and workplaces that belong to local artists. Taikang road is the second Xintiandi in Shanghai.
