Day tour from Taiyuan to Yungang Grottoes, Mu Pagoda and Kiankong Temple

At 7am, your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Taiyuan. Then, take a 3-hour drive to visit the impressive wooden pagoda. It was built about 1000 years ago during the Liao Dynasty. The 67.31 meter tall tower is the oldest wooden tower in the world. Although you can't climb it, the 1,000-year-old historical structure that stands here is worth a visit.

Hengshan Hanging Temple

Afterwards, it takes an hour's drive to Kenkuji Temple. It was built by a cliff and supported by huge and long wooden pillars. The entire temple can be seen both from below and from above. It was built in 491 AD and is very well preserved. It is also interesting that there are three religions in one temple: Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.

Yungang Grottoes

Then, drive 1.5 hours to Yungang Grottoes in Datong City. It is a UNESCO cultural heritage site and has a history of over 1500 years. See the impressive Buddha statues, frescoes, and carvings inside the cave with a local guide and learn their history and stories. A light lunch is included. You will then be transferred back to your hotel in Taiyuan where the tour ends.
