▲ On August 13, 1937, the Second Battle of Shanghai erupted. As the main Chinese forces were ordered to retreat, Xie Jinyuan, deputy commander of the 524th Regiment, 262nd Brigade, 88th Division of the National Revolutionary Army, was commanded to lead the "Eight Hundred Heroes" (actually over 420 soldiers) in defending the Sihang Warehouse in Zhabei, Shanghai, engaging in a fierce four-day-and-night battle against the Japanese invaders. Xie Jinyuan fulfilled his mission with honor in the subsequent battles, proving himself as a responsible, capable, and principled military commander. General Xie Jinyuan and his "Eight Hundred Heroes" became a source of pride and a symbol for the entire nation.
