A Stage Where Magic Happens
Here, the past and present collide. Elaborate costumes, mesmerizing melodies, and dynamic lighting transport you to another world.
Watch as sheng (heroic male roles), dan (female characters), jing (painted-face warriors), and chou (clowns) weave tales of love, honor, and adventure—each performance a microcosm of life itself.
A Theater Steeped in Legend
Nestled in Qianmen's Xianyukou Street, Tianle Grand Opera Theater in Beijing has been a cultural landmark since 1785. It was here that:
Mei Lanfang, the godfather of Peking Opera, began his career at just 17.
Cheng Yanqiu skyrocketed to fame with his hauntingly beautiful vocals.
Legendary performers like Han Shichang (Kunqu opera), Xin Fengxia (Pingju), and Xiao Baiyushuang (Pingju) made their mark.
China's first all-female opera troupe, Chongya Society, was founded.
Today, the theater continues its legacy, offering world-class performances in a space where history and artistry intertwine.
