Stop by Jedburgh to see the ruins of the Augustinian Abbey
The Scottish Borders – Enjoy rolling hills and open countryside
Itinerary
Start your journey along the old Roman Dere Street, stretching from southern Scotland to Northumberland. Explore the scenic Scottish Borders, dotted with hills, abbeys, and villages.

First, visit Jedburgh, home to the impressive 12th-century Abbey. Wander its narrow streets to see the abbey's ruins.

Next, head south to Carter Bar, marking the historic border between Scotland and England. This ancient crossing has stood for over 700 years.

As you enter Northumberland, famous for its castles and countryside, continue towards Hadrian's Wall. Stop at Steel Rigg for a walk along the wall, imagining Roman soldiers' isolation. Your guide will recommend the best spots.

Next is an optional activity: Explore Vindolanda, the archaeological site with Roman artifacts like shoes and pottery.

Finish your journey with a stop in Moffat, a Victorian spa town known for its mineral springs and famous toffee. Then, continue north, passing the Pentland Hills, back to Edinburgh.
