Visited the wall first. Would have walked but did not start early enough to have the time, so took the round trip cable car. No crowds at all and fantastic views. Then wandered through charming Gubei water town as the golden hour lent the mountains a glorious golden glow. As it got dark the town became even more magical as we wound our way to the exit. Our driver got our tickets and explained everything clearly with his phone translator. highly recommend this tour. It was easily the best tour we had while in Beijing.

Reviews: Summer Palace Ticket with optional Guided Tour

With this self-guided reservation, access was very easy; you just show your passport and you're in. This attraction is a 5-10 minute walk from the subway station. If you're adventurous, it's well worth going up through the main entrance. If you want to go directly to the ship and the walkway, keep walking and use the next entrance. The view from the summit's terrace and the views will take your breath away. The site has ramps for people with limited mobility. A truly worthwhile experience.

A delightful tour, we were led by guide Michael Shi, who is very knowledgeable about history, a pleasant conversationalist, and speaks English well. He took care of everything: tickets, showing us the best spots for photography. The itinerary included a lunch with many dishes and a visit to a jade engraving workshop. We were also guided by Michael to the Emperor's Tomb! A wonderful experience.
