Yaoba Ancient Town is located in the junction of southern Sichuan and northern Guizhou and was built in the early Ming Dynasty. The ancient town is not big, well-preserved, and has no commercial atmosphere. The folk customs are simple and the environment is quiet. Yaoba Ancient Town brings together the strong historical culture and ancient folk customs of Sichuan and Guizhou provinces, and is also a film and television photography base. The pace of life in the ancient town is very slow, there is a peaceful and peaceful atmosphere, and there are not many tourists. It is a good way to walk around the ancient town. The mutton in red soup in the ancient town is a local speciality, which is not to be missed. You can choose a restaurant on the street of the ancient town to taste. There is also a Ciyun Temple in the ancient town, where you can go there to burn incense and worship Buddha, and pray for yourself and your family.Hejiang · 19.7 km from downtown

Fobao Ancient Town is located in the southern border of Sichuan, on the banks of the Dacao River. As early as the Tang and Song Dynasties, it was the place where Sichuan salt must pass through the salt road before entering Guizhou. It formed a commercial market town in the late Yuan and early Ming Dynasty, and it was called Xinchang, and it was called Buddha Treasure in the Qing Dynasty and Kangxi. It is the political, economic and cultural center of the Dacao River Basin. , Xingzhen has a history of more than 600 years. The ancient town is built on the mountain, walks with the water, the three waters meet, and the five bridges are connected. Surrounded by green mountains and shaded by greenery, experts call it "the essence of mountain architecture" and "a space symphony". Because the ancient town is located at the border of southern Sichuan and northern Guizhou, it is at the intersection of Yelang culture and Central Plains culture, thus forming a unique historical culture. The buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties, palaces, temples, altars, wooden buildings with hanging feet, sculptures and paintings, as well as the graceful suona music and simple folk singing, all embody the splendor of history and culture. Fobao Ancient Town has a long history and profound cultural connotations. It is a famous historical and cultural ancient town in Sichuan, one of the top ten ancient towns in Sichuan, and a cultural tourism boutique scenic spot in the "Golden Triangle" of Sichuan-Chongqing-Guizhou eco-tourism.Hejiang · 24.9 km from downtown

Bijia Mountain Scenic Area is located in Hejiang County, Luzhou City, 42 kilometers from Luzhou City and 7 kilometers from Hejiang County. It borders Chongqing Municipality and Chishui City, Guizhou Province. The scenic area covers 8,400 mu (approximately 567 hectares), with a forest coverage rate of 68.2%. The average annual temperature is 16.2°C, and the average annual rainfall is 1500 mm. The mountain features typical red Danxia landform characteristics, with unique and beautiful scenery. Bijia Mountain rises abruptly from the plain, with steep slopes, ancient trees reaching for the sky, and the Yangtze River, Chishui River, and Xishui River flowing around it. A boat trip on the Chishui River reveals Bijia Mountain resembling a pen holder, with three peaks and two depressions, standing proudly alone. It has been used for its natural features for over a thousand years. During the Sui Dynasty, when Taoism flourished, it was called Ancient Anle Mountain, and the legend of Zhang Tianshi (Celestial Master Zhang) painting celestial talismans all over the mountain still circulates today. Originally named Shaomin Mountain during the Tang Dynasty, it was renamed Bijia Mountain after its three peaks, which resemble a pen rack. During the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Bijia Mountain. Bijia Mountain boasts 28 naturally formed scenic spots, including Fairy Cave, Fairy Mouth, Fairy Stone, Nine-Linked Caves, Sun-Drying Stone, and Sutra-Reciting Rock, earning it the reputation of a miniature scenic area. Fairy Stone is one of the few stone figures visible on the Yangtze River. Nine-Linked Caves feature nine interconnected caves with diverse and uniquely shaped rocks. Fairy Cave is imposing and refreshing, making it very pleasant. Fairy Mouth offers panoramic views of the mountains bordering southern Sichuan and northern Guizhou, a truly magnificent sight. Sun-Drying Stone provides a breathtaking view of the three rivers winding through the landscape, offering a complete vista of the southern Sichuan countryside. Yuntai Temple on Bijia Mountain was built during the Sui Dynasty, and its gate still retains a 600-year-old camphor tree, a rare sight in southern Sichuan. The temple is well-preserved, and its collection includes an inscription by Huang Tingjian, Ming Dynasty murals, and a Qing Dynasty bronze bell weighing over a thousand kilograms.Hejiang · 4 km from downtown

Mount Emei is one of the four famous mountains of Chinese Buddhism, and it is also the temple of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. There are numerous Buddhist monasteries in the mountains that combine to give this place a holy and serene atmosphere. The scenery in the mountains are beautiful. The four seasons each have their own characteristics. If you are lucky, you can see the sunrise and sea of clouds. Do note that the monkeys in Mount Emei are notoriously naughty. They are not afraid of people, and even take the initiative to ask tourists for food.China · Emeishan City

Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum

The Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum is a temple dedicated to honoring Shu Han heroes such as Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang. Its origins date back to 221 AD during the first year of the Zhangwu era under Emperor Zhaolie of Shu Han, when Liu Bei's Hui Ling Mausoleum was constructed. The Han Zhaolie Temple was also built during the same period. Approx. around 500 AD during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, the Wuhou Shrine was relocated from Chengdu's "Shaocheng" to the vicinity of Hui Ling Mausoleum and Han Zhaolie Temple, maintaining this layout until the Ming Dynasty. In 1390 during the 23rd year of the Hongwu era, Zhu Chun, the Ming Prince of Shu, visited the Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum for worship. Citing that "monarch and subject should be united as one," he merged Hui Ling Mausoleum, Han Zhaolie Temple, and Wuhou Shrine into a single complex. As Zhuge Liang's influence among the common people surpassed that of Liu Bei, the site became colloquially known as "Wuhou Shrine." The cultural relics area of the Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum mainly consists of the Hui Ling Mausoleum, Han Zhaolie Temple, Wuhou Shrine, and the Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum - Sanyi Temple, with the main structure being the Wuhou Shrine. The shrine is divided into the main gate, second gate, Liu Bei Hall, passage hall, Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum - Zhuge Liang Hall, and Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum - Sanyi Temple, all aligned along a central axis from south to north. The shrine houses 50 statues of Shu Han heroes including Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang, along with numerous stone inscriptions and plaques related to Zhuge Liang and Three Kingdoms culture. The famous "red wall and bamboo shadows" of Chengdu are located within the attraction. Don't forget to take photos. The garden area of Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum, located on the west side of the shrine, features architectural structures such as the stone archway gate, three-arched gate, square pavilion, Jiexin Hall, and burial chamber. It is the only northern-style mausoleum complex in southwest China. The shrine is adjacent to Jinli Ancient Street (Jinli Folk Custom Area), making it convenient to visit both sites together.China · Chengdu
Leshan Giant Buddha

Leshan Giant Buddha

32.4k reviews
The Leshan Giant Buddha, also known as the Lingyun Giant Buddha, is situated on the cliff of Qiluan Peak on Lingyun Mountain at the confluence of the Min River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River in Leshan, Sichuan. It is a colossal seated stone statue of Maitreya carved during the Tang Dynasty, standing approx. 70 m tall, with a single instep spacious enough to accommodate over a hundred people. Legend has it that the turbulent waters at the confluence once frequently capsized passing boats. To calm the currents, the monk Haitong of Lingyun Temple initiated the carving of the Buddha. Over several generations, craftsmen continued the construction, which took approx. ninety years to complete. On the cliff to the right of the Buddha, an inscription from the Tang Dynasty titled "Jiazhou Lingyun Temple Great Maitreya Stone Statue" remains to this day, revealing its original name—the Great Maitreya Stone Statue of Jiazhou Lingyun Temple. The common route to visit the giant Buddha is to first arrive at Lingyun Temple beside the Buddha's head, then descend along the winding Jiuzhaigou plank road built against the cliff. View the Buddha's spiral hair buns and robe folds up close, and reach the platform at the Buddha's feet to look up at the full figure. Only then can one truly appreciate the grandeur of "a mountain being a Buddha, and a Buddha being a mountain." Lingyun Temple has continuous incense offerings, and many travelers also join their palms here to pray for blessings. For a different perspective, take a boat cruise or view from the riverside of Leshan ancient city: the continuous mountain outlines of Wuyou Mountain, Lingyun Mountain, and Guicheng Mountain resemble a giant reclining Buddha facing upward, with the grand Buddha seated precisely at its chest—creating the marvel of "Buddha within Buddha." The river view also captures the grand Buddha's full profile alongside the scenery of three rivers, making it especially effortless for travelers with limited stamina or those seeking panoramic shots.China · Leshan

It's very beautiful and relatively uncommercialized. It's where local residents live. The mutton in red soup is so delicious. There is a shuttle bus from Luzhou City, which costs 16 yuan per person, which is not bad. It's not very convenient to call a taxi locally.

Fubao Ancient Town is located in Hejiang County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province. It is the gateway to the national Fubao Forest Park. The ancient town was built in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty and has a long history. The ancient buildings in the ancient town are built against the mountain and are basically well preserved. There are many things to see!

Visiting the Luzhou Laojiao 1573 Old Distillery and tasting the original 68-degree liquor, it was very sweet and fragrant. The entire scenic area was filled with the aroma of liquor. Since we were already there, we bought some liquor coffee and even had it refilled on the spot – a truly memorable experience.

This place is primarily for those seeking a refined, scholarly atmosphere. It's similar to a park; if you enjoy Du Fu's poetry, you can take your time to read and appreciate it, then stroll around. The snack stall near the north entrance is quite good, but unfortunately, time was too tight, so I didn't have time to go there for lunch.

The highlights are the three-hour round trip by scenic shuttle bus, and the 40-minute queue for the cable car up and 50-minute queue for the cable car down during the off-season. The Golden Summit is indeed very beautiful, but the total time spent visiting is only one hour, while the transportation takes five hours.

The Two Rivers Ferry is absolutely fantastic! The 15 yuan ticket is incredibly cost-effective! Here's a great route for families with kids: After visiting Jiefangbei and Kuixinglou, see Hongyadong during the day. If you're traveling with a 6-year-old and don't want to brave the crowds at Hongyadong at night, the stilted buildings during the day are just as beautiful. Afterward, take the Two Rivers Ferry to Danzishi, disembark, and explore Danzishi Old Street, Nanbin Road, and Xiahaoli. Then, take the light rail/bus or taxi back. The whole route is smooth and relaxing. The boat ride is novel and fun, and the kids especially loved it, remaining enthusiastic about exploring the shopping streets afterwards. At the pier, there's a large bowl of freshly cut watermelon for 10 yuan – watch it being cut right in front of you! It's sweet and refreshing. I highly recommend this route for families!

Overall, the explanation was good and very detailed, covering many historical anecdotes. Without the explanation, it would have been a rushed experience, and my impression of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms was far from reality 😅 I've really forgotten all my history. How can you come to Chengdu without visiting the Wuhou Shrine? And you definitely need to listen to a guided tour when you visit Wuhou Shrine. Because I was traveling with elderly people, I chose a private guided tour. What I didn't understand was that they never charged extra for the headsets, which was awkward and uncomfortable.

The scenery is nice, but it gets monotonous after a while. Be prepared for a long walk, at least three hours. Halfway through the journey, everyone is basically just waiting to reach the exit; it's really tiring, with all the ups and downs. There's a small shop right outside the entrance, but the items aren't cheap. I suggest walking a little further out; there are plenty of food stalls there.
