Ollantaytambo is a small town deep in the Sacred Valley of Peru and a stop that is hard to bypass on a Sacred Valley itinerary—most trains to Machu Picchu depart from the station in town, and many travelers choose it as a transfer stop. However, its charm is not limited to being the gateway to Machu Picchu: it is often called a living Incan town, where the neighborhoods still follow the urban layout from the Incan period, with stone-paved roads, narrow car-free alleys, and Incan water channels that still flow along the streets today, all retaining their appearance from hundreds of years ago, making it perfect for slowing down and wandering aimlessly.Peru · Ollantaytambo

The bigger mystery at Machu Picchu is a huge stone sculpture called the Shuanri Stone. Some astronomical archaeologists speculate that the large quadrangular stone carving on a raised platform in this square is a sundial, and others say that it was used for some form of astronomical observation. Although there is no consensus on its purpose, almost all archaeologists agree that the Sunburst is the more sacred structure in Machu Picchu. How to identify Sunstone? If you see a group of tourists around a large stone from a distance, stretch out their hands without touching it, to feel the energy released by the stone, this is the sun-linked stone. There are three very peculiar places in this sun-shuan stone. One is that there is a corner next to the sun-shuan stone. This protruding corner is facing the true north. You may wish to bring a compass to verify on the spot. Let's take a look at the exquisite calculations of the Incas in the middle of the 15th century AD; the two peculiar places are the vertical stone above the Sunstone. The cut surface of the stone has four corners that look a little irregular, and the four corners are exactly opposite to each other. It is southeast and northwest. Facing the north corner is a mountain called Vana Picchu, and the opposite is also facing a mountain in the south. Similarly, it is also facing a mountain in the west, and there is no mountain in the east. Why? Because the sun wants to shine in, the Incas built this city in the sky on such a high-altitude mountain to welcome the sun in the east, so how can there be mountains to block it. This is another peculiarity, enough to show that the Incas were very intelligent.Urubamba · 49.2 km from downtown

The area where the main temple, the Three Window Temple and the Shuan Sun Stone are located is known as the Sacred Plaza. The buildings in this area are larger than other buildings in Machu Picchu, and the lintel rock of the main temple weighs 3 tons. This temple has only three walls, and next to the main temple is a humble little temple, which historians speculate is the place prepared by the priest.Urubamba · 49.1 km from downtown

Plaza de Armas

Plaza de Armas is the main square of Cusco, Peru, and the heart of the entire city. During the Inca Empire, it was known as Warrior Square and served as the center for celebrations, religious ceremonies, and military triumphs in the capital, surrounded by the palaces of successive Inca kings. After the arrival of the Spanish, churches and stone mansions were built on the ruins of the palaces, forming the layout seen today. Plaza de Armas is surrounded by a ring of stone arcades, which now house many restaurants and shops. Choosing a seat on a balcony to watch the locals chat, feed pigeons, and soak up the sun is a relaxing way to adjust to the high-altitude pace. Keep an eye out for the seven-colored rainbow flag flying over the square. It is the official flag of Cusco and is considered a symbol of Inca tradition, which has a different meaning from the rainbow flag commonly seen elsewhere.Cusco · 27.7 km from Urubamba
Twelve Angled Stone

Twelve Angled Stone is located on Hatunrumiyoc Street in the old town of Cusco and is a section of Inca-era stone wall standing along the street. The base of this wall was originally part of an Inca palace. Although it has been covered by colonial-era buildings above, the Inca masonry from hundreds of years ago remains in its original state. The entire wall is built from massive stones of varying shapes and sizes, stacked like a jigsaw puzzle. No mortar or other binding materials were used between the stones, yet the joints are so tight that it is difficult to insert even a piece of paper, a testament to the craftsmanship of the Inca stonemasons. One stone on the wall that draws visitors to stop is the Twelve Angled Stone. This massive stone, weighing several tons, has twelve angles and fits seamlessly with the surrounding stones. It is a masterpiece of Inca polygonal masonry, and many tourists make a special trip to take photos when visiting Cusco. This seemingly random, yet meticulously calculated construction method allows the wall to shift slightly during vibrations without collapsing. Having withstood several major earthquakes in Cusco, this ancient wall remains intact, with a level of stability that even surpasses the brick and stone structures built on top of it later.Cusco · 27.8 km from Urubamba

Walk eastward from Triunfo Street in the southeast corner of the square, walk for 10 minutes in the narrow stone alleys, climb a few steps, and look up to see San Blas built on a small hill. San Blas is a good place to spend a relaxing afternoon. Throw away the map and wander aimlessly in the alleys, and you will often get unexpected surprises.Cusco · 27.9 km from Urubamba

Walk three blocks west from Plaza de Armas along Mantas Street and you will arrive at Plaza San Francisco. There are no famous attractions here, and there are not many tourists. It is a place for locals to take a break. To the south of the square is Iglesia de San Francisco. Although it is not as famous as other churches, it also has a large number of artworks left over from the colonial period.Cusco · 27.8 km from Urubamba

Shuanri Stone is a large stone located at a high place. The shape of this ancient stone is obviously artificially carved. It is very magical. Looking down from here is also a very spectacular view.

The Inca Trail and the twelve-sided Inca Stone near the Plaza de Armas attract a lot of tourists. The Inca Stone is very neat and large, which is impressive. In the vicinity, you can also see the life of the locals, which is very nice.

The park was originally a storage site for a textile raw material company, with textile equipment pits, fire pools, stone slabs, lightning rods and other industrial elements. The park takes "intelligence" as its theme, making full use of industrial relics, respecting the original historical features, highlighting the characteristics of the creative industry, and combining plant landscaping space to form a new cultural highlight in the park's green space.
