Compare 5 airports near Athens

For most travelers, Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (ATH) is the primary and most practical choice: it is the only airport located in Athens, serving as the main international and domestic gateway with direct, efficient metro and bus links to the city center. The remaining airports in the list are not in Athens at all and serve neighboring cities or islands: Skiathos International Airport (JSI), Milos Airport (MLO), Syros Island Airport (JSY), and Skyros Island National Airport (SKU) are regional facilities that primarily handle domestic flights and generally require a ferry or additional flight to reach Athens. These airports are only suitable for travelers specifically visiting those islands or seeking local regional connections. For international arrivals and seamless access to downtown Athens, sticking with ATH is highly recommended. Always confirm your final destination, as these island airports are significantly farther away and require different transit planning.

Positive: - Very clean with a/c and nice aroma around the hotel. - Breakfast was good which is on the rooftop with lovely views of the acropolis. - Staff were friendly. - Location is good which includes a metro station nearby. - The rooms and bathrooms were clean and spacious. - Good value for money Negatives: - Pool on rooftop is nice but can get busy/crowded. - They provide early breakfast between 2am - 7am for those with early starts but the options are terrible.

Fantastic location, easily walkable to the main attractions and Syntagma Square for airport buses. The room was clean, the bed very comfortable, and the breakfast was generous. We truly enjoyed our stay at Plaka Hotel.

The hotel was generally clean, and the location was convenient. However, I was disappointed with the way my room request was handled. During the reservation process, there was a section for special requests. I specifically requested a room on one of the upper floors. Despite this, I was assigned a room on the 1st floor, even though the hotel has 19 floors. It seemed that my request had been completely ignored. I politely asked if it would be possible to move to a higher floor. Instead of offering any flexibility, I was told that I would need to pay an additional €50 or upgrade my booking. Considering that my entire stay cost only around €100, asking for an extra 50% of the room price just to move to a higher floor felt excessive and unreasonable. If requests for higher-floor rooms are only available for an additional fee, this should be clearly stated during the booking process. Otherwise, the “special requests” section creates expectations that are not actually honored. Overall, the hotel itself was decent, but this experience with customer service left a negative impression. I hope the hotel will handle guest requests more fairly in the future.

A charming little boutique hotel with character The hotel is not new or flashy, but it's very well maintained and clearly cared for. It's tucked away on a quiet side street in Plaka, yet it's easy to find and wonderfully located — just a short walk to Syntagma and all the main sights. The rooms are pretty petite,(especially the lift)but tastefully decorated, clean, and comfortable. Everything feels thoughtful and welcoming. The breakfast is truly the highlight. It's not a huge spread, but everything is fresh, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with care especially the Greek breakfast. For the price point, it's a standout. If you're looking for a place with charm in a fantastic location — this is a lovely choice.

A very good hotel to stay when travelling with kids. We were given an amazingly large room. The roof top breakfast bar was amazing, in terms of the view and food. Note: Another family who booked with us (with just 1 kid), for a slightly cheaper price, were given a much smaller, shabbier room with ground floor breakfast options which was not too good. So make sure you have clarity on that before confirming the booking.

Syntagma Square Athens|1.2km from city center
The location of this hotel is really great, near Syntagma Square. The X95 airport bus stop is just a 5-minute walk away, and the metro station is also nearby. The price is quite reasonable. There’s a free buffet breakfast, but no hot food 🥹. The room is spacious, but the bathroom is quite small 😅. The only downside is that there’s no complimentary bottled water, and the room is filled with chargeable snacks, drinks, and alcohol.

The hotel is in an excellent location, with restaurants, shopping areas, and historical attractions all within just a few minutes’ walk. The Premium Acropolis View & Balcony room is truly worth it. The service is outstanding — we were welcomed with champagne and desserts upon arrival, which made us feel very special. From the breakfast restaurant, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Acropolis of Athens, making the dining experience even more memorable. The fresh orange juice felt unlimited, and the staff were warm and attentive — frequently refilling water and juice. There was also a wide variety of coffee options available. The only downside was that the selection of hot breakfast items was somewhat limited. It would be wonderful if the hotel could add a live cooking or made-to-order station to further enhance the overall experience. Overall, I highly recommend staying at this hotel when visiting Athens, Greece — you will definitely not be disappointed.

Koukaki Athens|1.72km from city center
Excellent in every way! The location is perfect - right next to the Acropolis Museum, 7mins from a subway, close to many great restaurants but still down a peaceful street not crowded with tour groups (though the busses do pass by). The breakfast is hearty and flavourful. It fueled us till well into the afternoon. The staff were all friendly and helpful. And the rooftop restaurant has a view that few can match. If you want to have a relaxed yet romantic dinner this would be a great option. (but book in advance unless you just want a drink) The jacuzzi on the 4th floor was a treat after a long day of walking. It's worth noting that the cheaper rooms only have a window into the courtyard, so upgrade if you want the balcony looking onto the Acropolis. That said, the room was still very comfy with enough space for our two large suitcases - and there are places to get the view as mentioned above. I'll happily book here again on the next trip.

The location was excellent, could walk easily to Acropolis in less than 5 mins. The hotel room was really clean and decent sized but felt that there could be a bit more hooks to hang face towel and clothings for bathing. The design of the city view room tried to consolidate some common area at the entrance and bathroom, making it a little odd. No rooftop restaurants or swimming pool, was caught by surprise when the staff told me in an oddly upset way that it’ll be closed permanently for 1.5 years (not sure what that meant).

Lovely hotel. Well situated and the roof top restaurant is amazing. Unfortunately the ladies at reception are LESS than friendly, to the point of being rude. I suppose we all have bad days, and maybe that was the case. However if hospitality is your chosen career, and front of office your position, ….:otherwise defiantly an amazing hotel which we are grateful to have experienced.

Clean, modern hotel with basic rooms. Located close to metro station. Pleasent stay, but definitely not 5*. Cheap and low quality cosmetics, many single-use and plastic items in the room which isn't exactly ”green”. Pool is nice, with distant view on Acropolis. Parking needs to be prebooked and costs 10€. Very helpful for the jammed area.

The last stop on my European trip was Athens, Greece. I booked this hotel in advance, not far from the Acropolis. They picked me up from the airport and took me here. The hotel's overall decor had a slightly vintage feel. The lobby was large, and the receptionist was a beautiful Greek woman whose English was somewhat spoken but still communicative. The rooms were spacious, with balconies and even a Nescafé coffee machine. The bathroom had a dryer and heated tub, convenient for guests to wash and dry their own clothes. Breakfast was in the basement, a large space, and a Western-style breakfast; Greeks must really enjoy sweets. This hotel is frequented by tour groups; tourists come and go every day. There are restaurants within a 20-minute walk, and a supermarket nearby. The Acropolis is visible, about a 10-minute walk away. The surrounding area is a local residential area, very safe and quiet.
