Compare 5 airports near Heraklion

For most visitors to Crete, Heraklion International Airport N. Kazantzakis (HER) is the primary and most practical choice, as it is the only airport physically located within the city of Heraklion itself. It handles a vast array of international and domestic routes and provides the most direct access to the capital, with taxi and bus transfers reaching the city center in minutes. Other airports serve neighboring cities and require significantly more travel time. Chania International Airport (CHQ), located in the neighboring city of Chania, serves the western region of Crete; reaching Heraklion from here involves a long drive or a multi-leg bus journey. Sitia "Vitsentzos Kornaros" Airport (JSH) lies in the eastern region, also requiring a substantial intercity transfer. Santorini Airport (JTR) is located on a separate island, meaning your transfer will likely involve a flight or a ferry across the Aegean Sea, which is highly dependent on weather conditions. Kasos Island Public Airport (KSJ) is the most remote option, necessitating a complex journey by boat or plane. Generally, we recommend sticking to HER for convenience unless you specifically plan to explore other parts of the island before arriving in the capital.

Well located comfortable hotel. Rooms small but well fitted all was good, but the wifi let the place down. Breakfast was a highlight. Great selection of quality food. Staff were capable and welcoming

Great hotel, the rooms were spotless, the cleaning staff were attentive and friendly, the front desk staff was cheerful and extremely helpful when I needed some meds on a Sunday. They searched for a pharmacy that was open, and then called to make sure. Great place. And the breakfast is very comprehensive!

We recently stayed at the Metropole and had a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment wr arrived. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location was great, close to everything we wanted to see and do. The breakfast buffet was great with plenty of choices. I highly recommend staying here for a comfortable and enjoyable stay while in Greece. There are a maze of options but you will do yourself a favour by staying here.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – Perfect Stay with Excellent Service City Lion by Semavi is an excellent place to stay in Heraklion! The front desk staff were very kind, friendly, and always helpful — they made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and assisted with everything we needed. The location is perfect, right in the centre of the city, with shops, restaurants, and attractions all within a 2–3 minute walk. The apartment was clean, modern, and very comfortable. Overall, a wonderful experience — great service, amazing location, and excellent hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Heraklion!

Stayed for a day, and stayed late and left early, and didn't feel good. But the service, environment and hygiene are still good. If you have the opportunity, you will consider staying next time.

The hotel is in a good location, close to the commercial street, and it takes more than ten minutes to walk to the bus terminal and the port. However, the service level of the front desk is poor, and the professionalism is insufficient, especially the young lady on duty in the afternoon. We booked three rooms for 7 people. On the first day, each room was only given one door card, and each person was required to have a ticket. After repeated negotiations, she changed the subject and did not respond positively. Another lady at the front desk knew our request and made several door cards for us. We have two family rooms, and the wrong rooms were arranged (different room types). We opened our luggage and packed up and changed rooms again. We stayed for three days, but there were only two bottles of bottled water in the refrigerator (two-person room), and they were not refilled after cleaning. We negotiated with her, saying that it was the hotel policy to only provide free bottled water for one day, and guests would have to buy it on the first floor in the future. If we talk again, she simply ignored us with a dark face! The most outrageous thing was the last day. During breakfast in the morning, 3 of us took our luggage to the lobby so that we could check out after the meal and rush to the pier to take the boat. The man on duty at the front desk did not let their suitcases in and put them outside the door (out of sight of the front desk). After the meal, three suitcases were missing! We hurriedly negotiated with the man on duty, but he had no idea and said that they might have been loaded onto a truck and taken to the dock. We ran to the street and found a group of people loading luggage onto a truck, and then we found our luggage. This is the worst service of the four hotels we stayed in during our trip to Greece, and it is also the only one we gave a bad review.

Redelijk hotel. Ruime kamers. We hadden strandhanddoeken gevraagd. Speciale handdoeken voor strand hadden ze niet maar desondanks bereid om te helpen. Beperkt aantal eigen parkeerplaatsen, maar over het algemeen kun je op straat wel een plek vinden.

What a lovely stay in Crete! This hotel is gorgeous and spotless. The Breakfast Buffet was outstanding, and every staff member I encountered during my 3-day stay was smiling and helpful. My Executive seaside room was spacious and well-furnished, and it was a perfect place to recharge on my 3-week journey. It was an easy walk from the port (I arrived with SeaJets), and the public bus to the Palace of Knossos was waiting for me right below the hotel the next day. The concierge gave great advice on places to visit, and called for the (15€!) taxi when it was time to get to the airport. Efharistó, Megaron!

The staff were warm and friendly, offering a welcome drink immediately upon arrival. The hotel is located on the west side of Heraklion, a bit of a distance from the city center. Overall, the environment was clean and hygienic, and the room facilities were new. Breakfast had a rich variety, and the restaurant offered beautiful views overlooking the entire bay.

A fantastic hotel, just 200 meters from the Cretan Archaeological Museum. There's a bus stop right next to the hotel to Knossos Palace; a round trip costs €5. The room I booked was great, the bathroom was clean, and it had a balcony, but it was a bit noisy at night because it's near the road. Also, it's a bit far from the beach, so the sea view isn't great. There was a kettle and complimentary bottled water. The breakfast was excellent, served per person, and I couldn't finish it all. The coffee was the best I've had at breakfast in years. I would definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Heraklion.

The room was clean and tidy, the kitchen was well equipped, and there was a small supermarket in the lobby. In particular, the front desk staff was very warm and friendly, and gave us handwritten bus routes and bus stop names. The bus stop was not far from the hotel, which was very helpful for us to visit the city (the bus driver did not understand English).
