Airport Guide

Compare 5 airports near Luang Prabang

For the vast majority of travelers, Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ) is the only logical gateway, as it is the only airport located within the city of Luang Prabang. It handles both domestic and international traffic and offers the most efficient transit, with taxis and shared minivans getting you to your hotel in under 20 minutes. All other airports on this list serve neighboring cities and are located in different provinces entirely. Xieng Khouang Airport (XKH), Oudomsay Airport (ODY), Houeisay Airport (HOE), and Sayaboury Airport (ZBY) provide access to remote northern regions of Laos. These airports should generally only be considered if your itinerary specifically involves visiting those provinces, as the overland travel time to Luang Prabang from these hubs can range from several hours to nearly a full day. Travelers arriving at these alternative hubs will rely on long-distance bus networks, private car hires, or the newer Laos-China Railway in the case of Oudomsay, rather than standard city-to-airport shuttles.

This hotel is absolutely perfect for families with kids! We spent most of our three-day, two-night stay at the pools, and the children had an amazing time. The hotel has two pools, one for adults and a shallower one that's great for younger kids. Beyond that, the public areas are beautifully maintained and very relaxing, ideal for a vacation. They also offer frequent shuttle services to Yangren Street, which makes getting around super convenient. And I have to mention the breakfast – it was delicious and came with a fantastic view. If only we had more time, I would have loved to stay and relax for another couple of days! Finally, a huge thank you to the hotel manager, Ms. Fu, who assisted us during our stay. As she's Chinese, we added her on WeChat after check-in, and she helped us with so many travel issues (booking private cars, rescheduling restaurant reservations, and various other small requests). I felt a bit bad for bothering her so much, but she was incredibly gentle and patient throughout. We'll definitely be staying here again next time. Thanks for taking such good care of us! ❤️

The most beautiful house on Foreigner Street, the kind everyone takes photos of when they pass by. It only has six rooms, but boasts more service and security personnel than guests, ensuring absolute safety and privacy. Located in the heart of Foreigner Street, its location is superb, within walking distance of major attractions such as Wat Xieng Thong, the Grand Palace, Mount Posei, and the sunset pier. Numerous restaurants and spas are nearby. The breakfast is plentiful, offering Western, local, and diet options, with a different choice every day. The bread and coffee are excellent, and there's a bar and cocktails in the evenings. While the price is higher than other hotels in the area, the quality absolutely surpasses many guesthouses, making it excellent value for money. We stayed with friends for three nights and experienced the quintessential French leisurely lifestyle.

A Dream Stay in Luang Prabang 🌿✨ My recent stay in Luang Prabang was nothing short of amazing. From the moment I arrived, I felt surrounded by tranquility and natural beauty. The lush tropical gardens, peaceful swimming pool, and charming traditional architecture created the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. The room was comfortable, spotless, and thoughtfully prepared with fresh fruit, drinking water, and everything needed for a pleasant stay. Waking up to the sounds of nature and enjoying the greenery around the property made every morning special. What truly stood out was the peaceful ambiance. Despite being close to the attractions of Luang Prabang, the hotel felt like a hidden oasis away from the crowds. The staff were warm, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. If you’re looking for a place that combines authentic Lao charm, comfort, and serenity, this is truly a dream hotel. I left with wonderful memories and would gladly return on my next visit to Luang Prabang.

Perched on a quiet hillside, surrounded by frangipani trees and filled with a calming atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to slow down and unwind. The property has just been renovated, everything is new. The breakfast was great, which offers buffet style as well as à la Carta. The food in the restaurants is tasty. What made my stay special was the incredibly warm and attentive team (eg. Mo, Inponh & Bee….. can’t name them all) - every detail was thoughtfully cared for. They also arranged the sweetest birthday surprises that made my stay even more unforgettable. Thank you very much for the whole team! .

The hotel's breakfast was perfect for me – a good, hearty Western-style meal that was comprehensive and provided all the nutrition I needed for the day. I was so full I didn't even need to eat again. Environment: The setting perfectly matched my expectations for Luang Prabang (not to mention the area outside the hotel); it truly felt like a resort. Service: The hotel can arrange reservations for the morning alms giving, providing sticky rice, cushions, and shawls. The staff's service attitude was excellent throughout, and communication was seamless.

This hotel is simply fantastic, and what's really great is the stunning view from the restaurant. You can enjoy not only a delicious breakfast but also a magnificent panorama. There's a large swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers. The hotel is located on a hill, offering views of both the mountains and the city. The only downside is that it's not in the city center, meaning you'll need to take a taxi for about 10 minutes to reach the attractions and the promenade, but this isn't a major issue. The rooms are excellent, and they even have baths with mountain views. Some rooms even come with a private pool. You can also borrow bicycles for free to explore the city! I think this is one of the best options in town.

The service attitude is first-class. The whole hotel is a bit old, but this is the case in Luang Por Labang. Slash-and-burn farming is a feature of this country. The breakfast is unique and the swimming pool is very clean and you can swim at ease.

Staying at Victoria XiengThong Palace in Luang Prabang this time truly exceeded my expectations! The hotel perfectly blends French colonial style with local Laotian charm, creating an amazing atmosphere. The location is superb; it's right next to Wat Xieng Thong, offering a peaceful retreat while still being within easy walking distance of all the main attractions in the old town. The room was spacious, clean, and elegantly furnished, with comfortable bedding. The natural light and views were excellent, and every detail exuded sophistication. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. From check-in to daily requests, their responses were always prompt, making me feel genuinely cared for. The courtyard garden is beautifully maintained, quiet, and relaxing – perfect for a leisurely stroll and some great photos. Overall, the experience was elegant, tranquil, and stylish. It beautifully combines historical depth with modern comfort, making it ideal for those who enjoy slow travel and appreciate quality. If you're coming to Luang Prabang, this hotel is definitely worth a stay!

There was a discrepancy between the photos shown online and the actual room facilities. I chose this hotel after comparing it with two or three other properties, and the photos were a major factor in my decision, so this was very disappointing. I requested that the misleading photos be removed. The room change was only within the same category, and even though it was off-season with vacant rooms available, I was still assigned the smallest room. If other rooms in the same category were available, I feel there could have been more consideration. That level of service was disappointing. A silk bathrobe was provided, but personally I prefer cotton. The amenities included a toothbrush, shower cap, cotton swabs, hairdryer, shampoo, soap, and body lotion. There was more than enough complimentary drinking water provided, which was reassuring. There was no minibar, but finding a French press and coffee beans in the room was a small but pleasant surprise. I really wish there had been mosquito coils or insect repellent on the balcony. The breakfast was quite good, but it was exactly the same every day, so I think staying more than three nights would become repetitive. The room furnishings and overall atmosphere were beautiful. It has a unique charm and character that newer architecture simply cannot replicate. Bicycles are available free of charge, including both regular bicycles and mountain bikes. I walked to the old town once, and it took about 15 minutes. It’s walkable, but if location is a priority, staying in the old town would be a better choice. Also, unlike many other 4-star or higher hotels, there was no shuttle service to the old town. Since I rented a motorbike, it wasn’t a problem for me, but with the rainy season approaching, this could become inconvenient. I’m glad I stayed once, but I wouldn’t return.

For our last two nights in Luang Prabang, we stayed at the Maison Souvannaphoum Hotel, located north of the 'foreigner's street' downtown. This is a boutique hotel under Accor's MGallery collection, officially named the 3 Nagas Luang Prabang, and it's a historic property spread across three buildings on opposite sides of the street. The lobby is in the west building, while my room was in the courtyard on the east side. The room size far exceeded my expectations; in a modern hotel context, it would be considered a junior suite, even with just one bathroom, which was quite spacious. The decor has a very vintage feel, and there were some gaps around the doors and windows, indicating that the building hasn't undergone extensive modern renovation. Although the bathroom was not small, it lacked a separate shower stall, so showering had to be done inside the bathtub.

We stayed from May 12th to 14th. This was my first time in Luang Prabang with my best friend, and our first time staying at a hotel from this group. During our stay, the ceramic shampoo bottle in our room broke. The female staff member at the front desk was very concerned about whether we had been injured, and she helped us contact the manager and replace the amenities. She was also the one who checked us in on arrival—I’m so sorry I didn’t catch your name. If the hotel management sees this review, please give her a commendation. Thanks to her excellent service, we will definitely choose your hotel again the next time we visit Laos.

A beautiful hotel with complimentary airport transfers. They also offer free rides to anywhere you want to go in the city. You can borrow bicycles, and a complimentary breakfast and dinner are included. In the morning, the hotel can arrange for you to participate in the almsgiving ceremony right outside the hotel, where monks pass by, and they'll even help you take photos.

This hotel perfectly blends French elegance with Lao charm. From the vintage carvings, courtyard pool, old fans, and louvered windows, every frame feels like a scene from a movie. The bedding is comfortable and the breakfast is exquisite, making it a highly recommended French-style hotel for a stay in Luang Prabang.

During the Spring Festival holiday, I took my family to Laos for a trip. This hotel was the most satisfying one during the trip. Although it is not in the downtown area, it is very close. It is very convenient to eat and play. The hotel owner is very nice and can help with pick-up and drop-off. Go to the high-speed rail station. They are all small single-family villas, and there is a swimming pool. There are peacocks next to the swimming pool. The breakfast is very rich. I highly recommend noodles, which are delicious. The front desk can speak a little Chinese and communication is barrier-free. Highly recommended.

On the last day of my Luang Prabang trip, I stayed at the Rosewood. Aside from the high price, everything was impeccable, and I was extremely satisfied. A small but exquisite hidden luxury hotel with an elegant interior. You can even fish near the waterfall, creating a very relaxing resort atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, themed around early 20th-century Western explorers, a perfect blend of French and Southeast Asian styles. Everywhere is photogenic. The Elephant Bridge Bar, built over the stream, has a fantastic atmosphere – don't miss it! Dinner and breakfast were plentiful and delicious, and you could eat without even leaving the hotel. Of course, going into town is no problem either; the hotel offers free shuttle service anytime. The service was excellent; there was a Chinese-speaking receptionist, and the staff were warm and friendly. However, they were a bit too enthusiastic towards us Chinese during meals, haha. The complimentary welcome desserts, drinks, straw hats, and rattan bags from the hotel were all of very good quality.
