For the vast majority of travelers, Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport (MGA) is the only logical choice for visiting Managua. As the primary international gateway, it sits conveniently within the capital city and offers the most efficient transit options, including official taxis and pre-booked transfers. In contrast, Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) is not in Managua at all; it serves the Guanacaste region of neighboring Costa Rica. Choosing to fly into LIR for a trip to Managua involves a significant, multi-hour journey across the international border at Peñas Blancas. This route is only practical if you are specifically planning a dual-country itinerary or if you have found a unique flight deal that justifies the extensive overland travel time and logistical complexity of cross-border transfers. Stick to MGA for direct access to the capital, and reserve LIR strictly for destinations within Northern Costa Rica.

This hotel is quite dated and it was disappointing to see that the hotel wanted to charge guests for water in the room. Also, the sink and bathroom in the room were not properly maintained. However, the breakfast was good.

This hotel is across the street from the hotel and has a 24 hour shuttle service. They are very prompt in their replies via WhatsApp. The bed is comfy, room is clean and the wifi is fast enough for online video calls. One con is I never could get the hot water to work in the shower but I live in Nicaragua so I’m used to cold showers lol. The staff is friendly and the breakfast has good, local options.
