We loved this guest house. Pleasant common area. Helpful staff. Well located in town. Large room. Lots of resources for travellers hoping to walk the Nakasendo. Shared bathroom facilities were actually a bonus because the whole family could shower at the same time (in individual showers - which were very clean with great water pressure). A wonderful lady runs this place. I spent two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was amazing, I have coeliac disease so I need to eat gluten free and the host made sure that everything i ate for breakfast and dinner was all gluten free. I stayed here on a solo trip to hike the Nakasendo trail. The hotel offers a shuttle bus from the station, which made getting around very convenient. I booked a meal-inclusive plan, and both breakfast and dinner were served in a private room. All I had to do was show up at the designated time. The food was delicious! 😋 The room was clean, and being nestled in the mountains, it was wonderfully quiet with fresh air. 👍 The hot spring was also perfect for soothing my tired legs after hiking. There aren't many hotel options in Nakatsugawa. This one is about a 7-8 minute walk from the station, and there's a large shopping mall nearby with a supermarket and 100-yen store, which is great for browsing. You can eat there or near the station. The hotel is very new; you need to take off your shoes upon entering, but luggage can be brought into the room. You can pick up amenities (not available in the room) from the first floor. In the evening, they offer a bowl of *ochazuke* (rice in tea broth). There's also a large public bath on the first floor. Overall, it's a pretty good hotel. The front desk's English is limited, but all information is available in both Chinese and English, so you can just read the descriptions yourself.
