This is our first time staying in a high class hotel.
It certainly felt luxurious, wonderful rooms and excellent service. The attentivness of the staff was fantastic and the buffet in the Crimson Restaurant for both breakfast and dinner was fantastic many many options all of which were high quality, fresh and tasty!
The gym for a luxurious hotel was a let down, incredibly basic, but that is my only complaint.
The onson baths were magnificent, the naked hot spring onson on site was nice,
The views from every room as far as I cab tell are amazing the lake is and landscape is breathtaking and the hotel is cleverly designed to maximise this and the viewing of the landscapes.
We stayed in a japanese based room with tatami floors and futon beds.
The lake view rooms are significantly nicer and upon reflection I wish I had booked that one, but the japanese rooms was still a great experience and very comfortable.
If we were to return to sunmoon we would gladly stay here again.
The real highlights are the staff, the landscape/views and the buffet.

The location is great! Just a 3-minute walk from the exit, you'll find a bus stop/trailhead, which is perfect for those traveling by public transport.
The breakfast was fantastic, I really enjoyed it! It's more on the Chinese side, and all the dishes were delicious. They also had simple salads and toast.
No air conditioning in the room was acceptable (they did mention it upon check-in), and the heater in the bathroom was a nice touch.
However, the hot water was extremely, extremely hot and unstable; I couldn't find a comfortable temperature.
The soundproofing in the room was really poor. Several times, I was startled by the sound of the next-door neighbor opening their wardrobe.

Overall, the accommodation was quite clean. The location is conveniently close to the Shueishe Visitor Center, an easy walk, though it's a slight downhill stroll. The atmosphere is lovely, and the lake view is beautiful. It would probably be even better if I had a higher floor room (I was on the second floor). However, I'm not sure if the balcony door couldn't be locked or if I just couldn't find the lock, which made me feel a bit uneasy, especially traveling alone. The view is superb. We love the bathtub and steam room. We just couldn't get enough of this place. This is the 2nd time that we stayed there. Coincidentally, we got stay at the same room twice.

I was lucky enough to get the room I wanted as advertised, and the lake view was exactly as advertised. The room was spacious, though the amenities were a bit basic. Every year, I take my parents to Sun Moon Lake, and this time I was really looking forward to staying at The Lalu. Although we had dinner at the hotel's Chinese restaurant, the noise from a nearby private room significantly impacted our dining experience. Aside from that, all the hotel staff were incredibly warm and welcoming.
The reservation staff were very thorough in their explanation before our trip, but they didn't mention that some limited-edition dishes in the restaurant needed to be pre-ordered, which left me quite disappointed during dinner.
Afterwards, due to various issues with our Chinese restaurant dining experience, a hotel manager personally stepped in to appease and resolve the situation.
