Nestled on a hillside overlooking the bay, the hotel is absolutely stunning on a clear day. The garden has direct access to the beach, though climbing the stairs back up can be quite a workout.
The room facilities were comprehensive and newer than I had anticipated.
The hotel was quite busy with guests from various countries, indicating it's indeed very foreigner-friendly. However, this also led to some issues. For instance, the hotel's onsen (hot spring) isn't very large, so it felt quite crowded with so many international visitors. What was even more dismaying was the blatant disregard for onsen etiquette. I personally witnessed several instances, including but not limited to: two Chinese female tourists in swimsuits in the outdoor bath, one of whom was sitting at the edge, soaking her legs while drinking a beverage, with a full face of makeup – I half expected her to pull out her phone for a 'perfect shot.' Additionally, two women, possibly from Eastern Europe or Russia, covered in tattoos, wore their slippers directly into the changing area and then just left them thrown under the lockers. Such sights were off-putting, so we decided not to use the onsen on our second night. The hotel actually provides guests with a leaflet on Japanese onsen etiquette upon check-in, but clearly, some people just don't bother to read it. I suggest the hotel increases staff patrols in the onsen area to promptly identify and address these uncivilized behaviors.
On another note, when we first entered our room, it felt stuffy, so we opened the window, which unfortunately let in some mosquitoes. After contacting the front desk, they promptly sent up an electric mosquito repellent, which was a thoughtful gesture.
We stayed for two nights, both on a half-board basis (dinner and breakfast). The dinner was a Western-style set menu, with at least 7 courses. Both the presentation and content were Michelin-level and absolutely delicious.
Finally, the hotel's shuttle bus service is quite frequent. In the mornings, there are four buses that stop at Shimoda Park, which is perfect for seeing the hydrangeas.FromUS$117

Fairly old building but well maintained. Huge space inside hotel and spacious room. Big onsen indoor pool with outdoor onsen available. Room furniture and condition are old but its good for 1-2 nights. Location is good. Near restaurants and shopping areas. Opposite fish market. Great amount of carpark lots available. The location is right in front of the beach and it is the perfect place to stay if u are going to the Shirahama beach.
Cleanliness is perfect too but I gave it 4/5 because the rooms are not soundproof. We can hear the footstep from the corridor and above room.
The service is perfect too. There is a shuttle bus for the hotel and they let us in from 2:30pm although the actual check in time is 3pm.
The staff will wait for u at the front door to give you towel when you come back from the beach.
As for the amenities, they have massage services (need additional cost), pool, onsen and etc. But we didn’t use most of the, so don’t know about their quality. So I gave it 4/5.FromUS$76

While it's small, it's incredibly convenient, being just a one-minute walk from both the train and bus stations. How should I put it? This is definitely the concept of a youth hostel, but the youth hostel I booked for 1,890 yuan didn't even have breakfast, so it was not worth it. There was no way I could book another hotel because I had stayed in a newly renovated hostel run by an elderly couple that was over 60 square meters the night before. It cost the same amount, and that was super value! This is super not worth it 😓, and there is no elevator. The area is very small, just like the Japanese style. The bathroom is shared, although there is a small hot spring pool that is ok, but everything else is average. The quilt cover and mattress are that kind of brown, which is the color of the bed in a hotel that I fear the most. If it's not white, you can't tell whether it's clean or dirty. In short, it's okay to stay within 500 yuan. In the summer, you must check the weather. It rained heavily for two days when we went there 🌧️. Right across from the hotel, you can rent electric-assist bicycles for 2000 yen a day, which I highly recommend. The dinner and breakfast were decent, but the service was really good. I choose and booked the private villa with pool and which is good,I enjoyed the dinner foods they served us,so classy and elegant presentation.
So I ordered the bottle of botega champagne which is fit for the foods they offered.
Lovely it was and amazing wonderful evening.
After we had a night pool with my partner and we bring our own foods and drinks champagne for the long night to celebrate our stay.
I’m very satisfied for my stay at this place.

It was the best place where my wife and I had ever rested. And the hotel and the whole city of Shimoda is a paradise. We liked absolutely everything. And the hotel employee - Kaori, is an exceptional nature person. She gives her work 200% and is the heart of this hotel. Thanks to her scrupulousness, sensitivity and care, there was a feeling that my mother was taking care of us in the hotel. We will definitely come back again!
