Compare 3 airports near Te Anau
Traveling to Te Anau requires careful planning as it is not directly served by a major airport. The most convenient gateway for most international and domestic travelers is Queenstown Airport (ZQN), located in the neighboring city of Queenstown. While it is about 91.7 km away, it offers the best balance of flight frequency and ground transport options, including rental cars and shuttles that make the scenic drive to Te Anau manageable. Invercargill Airport (IVC), situated in the nearby city of Invercargill, serves primarily domestic routes and is a viable alternative if you prefer to avoid the busy Queenstown hub, though public transport options are less direct. Finally, Wanaka Airport (WKA) in the nearby city of Wanaka is the most distant option and is generally best suited for those who require private charters or are already based in the Wanaka region. For all three airports, renting a car provides the most flexibility for exploring the Fiordland region, as public coach services often require transfers in Queenstown.

Overall, this accommodation was excellent and exceeded our expectations. The unit was very spacious, well-maintained, and spotlessly clean upon arrival, which immediately made us feel comfortable and at ease. The layout was practical and suitable for both short and longer stays, with ample space to move around and relax.
One of the biggest advantages was how easy the place was to locate. Clear directions and a convenient location made check-in smooth and stress-free, especially after a long journey. The surrounding area was also quiet and pleasant, allowing for a restful stay.
Cleanliness was clearly a priority, from the rooms to the common areas, which we truly appreciated. Overall, this accommodation offers great comfort, convenience, and value. We would definitely recommend it to others and would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.FromUS$39

A very quiet and comfortable place. The rooms are clean and tidy. There is a large lawn park just outside the door. It takes a few minutes to walk to the lake. There are some restaurants and supermarkets in the town, which is very convenient. If you are going to Milford Sound, this is undoubtedly the best place. Good place to restVery Good53 Reviews

Good location, easy access to restaurants and supermarkets. We visited Milford sound by car, and joined a day cruise for Doubtful sound visited, both were very enjoyable.
The ensuite room didn't have any cooking facilities, not even a microwave. If you want to cook anything, you need to go to a shared kitchen, and pay for the use of pots and pants.
Washing machines and dryers are availible, also need to pay for using them.FromUS$20

The staff are generally friendly however the service is not up to expectation. We are suppose to checkin at 2/3pm, and had a confirmation called from the hotel in the morning. However, when I arrived at 4pm, I was told that it’s not ready and they need till 5:30pm to have the room ready. The place was under renovation and it’s messy and dusty, but the room is nice and clean. Overall it’s good with nice view.FromUS$130

One of the best places we stayed in south island NZ. Firstly the staffs at the receptions are so welcoming, they're one of the highlights of this accommodation. The 2BR room was spacious, clean, modern and located right beside the lake. They're also a short walk away from the supermarket and glowworm office. Absolutely beautiful place! We highly recommend this place to everyone looking for a place in Te Anau.FromUS$83

I can absolutely recommend this place..it was delightful and very reasonably priced, possibly because it is not on the waterfront, but the cabin and service well and truly makes up for it's less than prime position. Could have stayed there for much longer. Very Good41 Reviews

I originally booked a lake-view apartment, but they upgraded me to a villa suite for free because of renovations. The hotel felt like it was nestled in a garden; although many flowers weren't in bloom this season, you could still see signs of careful landscaping. There were even benches outside overlooking the garden.FromUS$150

This hotel was a perfect place to stay the night before heading to Milford Sound.
The owner is Chinese, and in the quiet town of Te Anau, he felt incredibly friendly.
We departed from Queenstown that evening and arrived after our 8 PM check-in time. After contacting Ctrip customer service, the front desk responded quickly. Upon arrival, the owner had thoughtfully printed a note on the desk, and the room was immaculately clean.
The drive to the sound takes two hours, and there's a self-service gas station nearby, making it very convenient for refueling before departure and back in Queenstown. Overall, the stay was excellent.FromUS$84

Overall, the hotel looked quite clean, but there was a stain on my bed sheet; I'm not sure if it was impossible to wash out or what. The hotel's location is very convenient; it's within walking distance of the firefly viewing area.FromUS$194

Love this place very much. Very clean and spacious room, there were elderly friendly toilet & bathroom ( we had another bathroom with bathtub).
The kitchen is well equipped. The view overlooking the lake was superb.
Jetty to glowworms just in walking distance (1km). Numerous restaurants and supermarkets within walking distance as well (1-1.5km). You can just park your car in the apartment and walk slowly along the lake to enjoy the stunning scenery.FromUS$148

I would have given this a 5-star rating. However, I deducted one star due to staff behaviour and a fire alarm that went off at 5:00 a.m., requiring guests to evacuate the hotel.
Additionally, the staff could benefit from some customer service training, particularly in showing warmth and empathy toward guests. When we visited the front desk at 12:30 p.m. to enquire about an early check-in, the staff member was not at all understanding or accommodating. She bluntly say “No” and kept looking at her monitor without any reason.FromUS$153

The family room's beds, I believe both are two 0.9m beds pushed together, which made them quite large. Parking right outside the room was very convenient. The bathroom was spacious, but a bit empty; it would be better with some hooks. The shower gel and shampoo were in individual bottles, and should have been placed on a caddy in the shower, rather than under the sink. My child didn't even notice them and just rinsed with hot water. It would be even more convenient if there was an additional sink at the mini-bar counter. It's only a ten-minute walk to the Firefly Cave jetty, and about eight minutes to nearby restaurants, which is very handy. VILLAGE INN also has its own restaurant, but we arrived late at 7 PM on New Year's Eve, and they couldn't accommodate us. We were also rushing to catch the 8:15 PM Firefly Cave boat, so we didn't get to eat there.FromUS$79
