This is THE place to stay! Look no further! It's beautiful, peaceful, friendly, and super convenient (10-minute walk) from the Middle Gate (Zimugang) of the park, which is MUCH less crowded than the East Gate. We had a luxury corner room with a terrace and a spectacular view, and a 2-person sunken jacuzzi tub (with jets!) which was heavenly after hiking all day. Breakfast was delicious, varied, and plentiful, and dinner was equally tasty. Unfortunately it was too cold to use the infinity pool with a view, but it looks gorgeous. A big shout-out to KEVIN, the receptionist/concierge who speaks excellent English. He helped up in every conceivable way - from ordering multi-day tickets with unlimited rides, to giving us drop-offs and pick-ups to and from the park entrance, to planning three perfect Zhangjiajie Scenic Area days! Staying at Forest homestay was the best decision we could have made during our trip to China.
The service was truly 5 star. The staff at the lodge are so kind, helpful and efficient. We got personalised itineraries each day that changed a lot based on the weather, which was quite mixed! I was very impressed by their efficiency and flexibility. Each day we were driven to and from the park gate (for free). Pickup was within a couple of mins of us messaging that we were ready to leave. All of the staff were wonderful, but Guo Pu was a standout from our trip. Not only did he cart us around and respond to any questions via WeChat within minutes, but he made sure we got the most out of our time there - he pulled fruit from fruit trees at the lodge for us to eat, showed us the various animals they keep onsite, and took photos of us at the sky mirror. He was really great at giving instructions for getting the best effects! (Photos attached)
The room was superb - lots of great features like a heated air function in the shower that was helpful for drying off wet clothes after we got caught in a downpour. The room is a rustic style and there’s a few places that could do with a lick of paint and tidying up, but this added more to the rustic charm! The view really was incredible.
The location of the lodge might first seem far from the action of the park, but trust me, this is a blessing in disguise! The park gets incredibly busy, especially around Yuanjiajie. The busyness really can ruin the natural beauty. Being close to the Westgate allows you to access the park from the most uncommon direction which is actually marvellous as it means you are less likely to get caught up in crowds and queues as you are travelling around the park in the opposite direction of the vast majority of the tourists. This really makes a difference and maximising the time that you have in the park. Because of the mixed weather, we ended up travelling most of the top sights in the park again on the single good weather day and this worked really well because of our direction of travel. The Westgate is much quieter and the surrounding area is much more peaceful than the busy area around the east gates. This allows you to really enjoy the peace and beauty of nature when you aren’t exploring the park.
I would highly recommend staying here when you visit Zhangjiajie, and I’d like to thank all of the staff for such a magical and amazing time.FromUS$223

The cable car entrance to the top of the mountain is directly across the street from the hotel, and the Tianmen Mountain ticket office is just a short walk across the road from the hotel entrance. Second, the hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the breakfast spread was quite generous. Third, the hotel is surrounded by various Tujia specialty food streets. When you come to Zhangjiajie, you absolutely must try dishes like Sanxiaguo and Maojia cuisine. From the airport or Zhangjiajie West Railway station is only around 15 minutes by taxi. This made getting around very easy.
Against most recommendations, we opted to only have one hotel for our entire time in Zhangjiajie. The central location made visiting attractions like Tianmen Mountain, 72 Wonder Tower and Furong Ancient town (short train ride away) very easy.
The longest journey was to Zhangjiajie National Park, but was still only 45 minutes journey to the East Gate.
The hotel itself was very clean, the room was a great size and the bed was huge!
The staff were very attentive, all spoke English, and were very happy to offer help with anything we required. They even sent a message every morning to ensure we rested well, our stay was pleasant, and if we had had breakfast in the restaurant that day.
One big highlight of the room itself was the inbuilt ceiling speakers which not only had preprogrammed music but could easily connect to your phone via Bluetooth.

I booked ANNICA because of the high ratings and, honestly, because the photos looked gorgeous. You never know with those, but this place actually looks exactly like the pictures. No filter needed.
What really stood out for me happened before I even got there. A few days before my trip, Drizzle messaged me to introduce herself and asked if i needed help arranging a ride from the airport. Such a small thing, but it made me feel like someone actually cared. She also sent me the menu for lunch/dinner at the hotel without me having to ask. Just thoughtful.
During my 3 nights, she was always around, greeting me, asking if i needed anything, and somehow remembering my drink order. That kind of personal touch is hard to find these days.
For a small B&B, breakfast had way more options than i expected, and everything was solid. Room was clean, facilities well kept, and they have a really cute cat wandering around.
The only downside is location, it's a bit far from everything except Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. But honestly? The view and the hospitality made the distance totally worth it.
