Aachen Cathedral Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Aachen Cathedral
#europetrip Majestic and huge church with intricate designs on the ceilings and floors inside. Very aesthetic and something very different from other cathedrals. A must recommend. Free to enter. You can also take pictures but you’d need to deposit 1 euro coin for taking pictures, which I think is justifiable as the interior is so beautiful.
A very beautiful cathedral with breathtaking views. The surroundings are so beautiful and peaceful. Although the city is so vibrant and busy you cannot feel this when you are so close to the cathedral where everything is so calm.
Aachen Cathedral - One of Europe's Oldest
The Aachen Cathedral, also known as Aachener Dom, is a Roman Catholic church constructed by order of Emperor Charlemagne. From 936 to 1531, the Palatine Chapel saw the coronation of thirty-one German kings and twelve queens.
Being one of the oldest cathedrals in Europe, the cathedral’s architecture is a blend of Carolingian-Romanesque, Gothic, and Ottonian styles. The interior is adorned with antique columns that Charlemagne probably ordered to be brought from Rome and Ravenna.
In 1978, Aachen Cathedral was one of the first 12 items to be listed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites, due to its exceptional artistry, architecture, and central importance in the history of the Holy Roman Empire

This border town has its own unique beauty.
Aachen is a small city on the border of Belgium 🇧🇪 and the Netherlands 🇳🇱 in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, with a significant position in German history. In 800 AD, Charlemagne, the king of the Frankish Kingdom and the Carolingian dynasty, was crowned emperor by the Pope in Rome, and his territory covered most of Western Europe at that time. He established the capital of the empire 🏰 in Aachen and began to build a palace 🏛️ and a church ⛪, which is the prototype of today's Aachen Cathedral (Aachener Dom). After the death of Charlemagne, he was also buried here. At the same time, Aachen Cathedral was also the coronation site of more than 600 years of German kings and emperors since 936. Therefore, countless historical and religious treasures are concentrated here, and it is also the first world cultural heritage site in Germany 1️⃣.
Apart from that, Aachen also has the hottest hot springs in central Europe ♨, as well as the best technical university in Germany 🏬. Although small, Aachen is full of essence.

Monschau is a town in western Germany, near the Belgian border. It’s known for its medieval center, with half-timbered houses and narrow cobblestone streets. Looming over the town, turreted Monschau Castle hosts open-air concerts. The Red House, the 1752 home of a wealthy cloth manufacturer, includes lavish period furnishings and a carved, winding oak staircase. Trails traverse nearby Eifel National Park.Vibrant activities within ancient walls, a medieval townscape with idyllic half-timbered houses, narrow streets and cobblestones.
Monschau is the cultural centre of an entire region and one of the most popular holiday and excursion destinations in the Eifel.
More than 350 kilometres of signposted trails to the right and the left of the Eifelsteig will lead you through paths of adventure, e.g., along the imposing beech hedges, to the blooming narcissi meadows and up through the Hohe Venn (High Fens), a raised bog that is absolutely unique in its kind within Europe. Hike in the Eifel National Park on the Wildnis Trail or at the side of a ranger. Would you prefer to ride a bicycle or quite comfortably with an eBike? Meander pleasantly on the new Vennbahn Cycle Route or through the Rur Riverbanks Cycle Route and the Eifel-Höhen Route that both pass through the middle of the Monschau Old Town.

One of Germany's most beautiful town | Monschau's winter wonderland ||
The ancient half-timbered houses look like scenes from a movie in the snow.
🔜Monschau
🇩🇪One of the 10 most beautiful small towns in Germany, it escaped the bombing of the Allied forces during World War II because it is deep in the mountains, so the traditional buildings here are preserved most completely. The central part of the town is where two streams converge, with two small bridges and a Gothic church on either side. Cafes along the stream are lined up in a row, and the window sills and door panels with clear annual rings are full of antique flavor.
The town market, dessert shops, cookie stores, and specialty snacks. Climbing up the small hill, it feels like seeing the Windows startup interface.

Elisenbrunnen Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Aachen's Mineral Spring Fountain
The Elisenbrunnen, located in the heart of Aachen, Germany, is a symbol of the city's rich spa history. This early 19th-century pavilion houses a drinking fountain that takes water from the Aachen thermal springs. The sulfur-smelling water reminds visitors of the importance of the mineral springs in Aachen's history.
The fountain, named after the Prussian Crown Princess Elisabeth Ludovika of Bavaria, consists of an open foyer and two pavilions. The two drinking fountains provide warm, sulphurous water at a temperature of circa 50°C. Despite its unpleasant odour due to the high sulphur content, it is said to have healing properties.
