St. Peter's Church is the oldest church in Munich, Germany It is named for the hill that it sits upon. Prior to the construction of the St. Peter's Church, a pre-Merovingian church, a 12th century Bavarian Romanesque church and a Gothic chapel all stood on the hill at some point. St. Peter's Church was finished in 1368 and in the early 17th century the 92 meter spire received a Renaissance steeple top and a new Baroque choir. The interior of the church is dominated by the impressive high altar. Visitors must climb 302 steps to reach the church but they are rewarded at the top with a great view of Munich and the Alps.
