I am doing my rounds and Istanbul is not complete until i have my food at Sur Balik, excellent Fish Restaurant. Starter of chilli/pepper butter sauce fried squid, grilled octopus, prawns with bread is yummy and delicious. Followed by main course of Seabass. Dessert: Turkish Delight With majestic view of the Bosphorus, what else!!!
Maybe it should not be the first thing one should write in such review but I am really sorry I could not eat all food served during lunch in this restaurant! I wholeheartedly enjoy good food and these people serve it indeed. The ingredients are fresh and prepared in a creative way. You can eat here an excellent seafood with a subtle touch of the oriental cuisine. The restaurant itself is brand new with pleasant interior and lots of space. The staff is well trained whether to welcome you, serve, be at disposal for whatever you may need and most importantly make you feel good. To bad I do not live in Ankara. I would go there again, that is for sure :-)
We were there for 20+ business dinner. After an hour long seminar we went our table. Mezes were on the table but after that service was slow, one of my friends couldn't have a glass of raki for 30 minutes. Warm starters were very low in number and the fish was just a cultured sea bass. Deserts were ordinary, a tres leches and some flavoured ice-creams. You may think that cheap set menu may be the reason for poor quality but any restaurant with self-esteem will not allow a cheap set menu destroy its reputation. I am not sure the mediocrity of this restaurant is individual problem or the fate of many fish restaurants in Ankara. I am starting to believe the later.
