This elegant hotel was opened in 1886. It has a long and interesting history. The lobby with Doric Column is beautiful and the small parlor has a refreshment from the 1886 baking shop. The bar with the mezzanine is a re-enactment of the rich cowboy days of the past. They have live music every afternoon at 6 p.m., walls decorated with old paintings from the west. Lyndon Johnson's first date with his wife, Lady Bird, was here (breakfast in the dining room) and waiting for the results of the 1960 and 1964 elections. Here you can step into the history of Texas, it's still beautiful.

We loved this hotel and wanted to stay here every time we visited Austin. Location was great, just walk everywhere and UT Austin was a short drive or 25 minutes walk. The pastries and coffee at the cafe downstairs were delicious and provided an option to walk to the capital. The bar was a great place to end the day and watch the people with cocktails.
Beautiful scenery...the air is very fresh and nice
