You'll Regret Not Visiting Tengchong | A Guide to Qiluo Ancient Town
A Guide to Qiluo Ancient Town. It's worth coming over from Heshun|||The 55 yuan ticket for Heshun Ancient Town seems to deter quite a few people. Although the ticket includes some nice attractions, just a few kilometers away from Heshun Ancient Town is Qiluo Ancient Town, which has a longer history, more impressive standards, and is still free of charge!
1⃣ Qiluo Wenchang Palace
👉The fourth batch of national-level cultural preservation (Qing Dynasty)
When you park your car and come to the entrance, you might think the 'Yuzhen Qing Palace' sign means you're in the wrong place. But in fact, Qiluo Wenchang Palace is a complex of buildings constructed by combining the regulations of Confucian temples with Taoist palaces, and it also embodies the integration of Taoist and Confucian thought.
Qiluo Wenchang Palace was originally built in the 37th year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1609), expanded from the fifth to the ninth year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1740-1744), and rebuilt in the first year of the Xianfeng era (1851). It covers an area of nearly 5,348 square meters, with a total building area of about 2,240 square meters. It is one of the most intact ancient architectural complexes in Tengchong and a precious physical example for studying Ming and Qing wooden architecture in Yunnan. Compared to Wenchang Palace in Heshun, Qiluo Wenchang Palace is much more splendid.
Unfortunately, the sign at the entrance says it's closed for interior decoration, so you can only peek through the door cracks.
2⃣ Qiluo Library
👉The online opening hours are 12:00—16:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. It was still closed when I went there early.
The library in Heshun is the most famous attraction of Heshun Ancient Town, but actually, the library in Qiluo has a history that goes back a few years earlier, with over 100 years of history. In 1919, in order to achieve the goal of 'revitalizing our hometown together and building a new Qiluo,' the overseas Chinese community in Tengchong pioneered the Qiluo Reading Room, using it as an important base for promoting new ideas, spreading new culture, and opposing imperialism and feudalism, and gradually forming the center of activities for reforming the hometown and society. Unfortunately, in 1942 when Tengchong fell, the Qiluo Library was looted, and it was not until 1981 that it was restored. After three changes of location, the new library was finally completed in 1993.
Therefore, although it has a longer history, the library in Heshun indeed has a better atmosphere and is better preserved.
3⃣ Qiluo Morning Market
Like the morning market in Heshun, it is held every morning, but it clearly has a richer variety of goods and feels more like a traditional ancient town market, with traditional buildings on both sides as well.
4⃣ Qiluo Supply and Marketing Cooperative Canteen
The old-age canteen in Qiluo Ancient Town has very affordable prices, designed to evoke the era of our grandparents and parents, and it also looks very cute!
5⃣ Qiluo Ancient Town
The ancient town is not large, but it has a high proportion of traditional buildings, and many of the wood carvings at the entrances of the buildings are quite exquisite. In addition, the ancient town is not yet fully commercialized, and visiting is completely free. The only thing is that some old houses are combined with jade business, but there are also many restaurants, making it quite convenient for visitors. Worth a visit!

The central location of Gudong Ginkgo Village in Tengchong County, there is a huge ancient ginkgo, some of the tree age is said to be 1300 years, some say to be 1600 years, it is said that this one is the village "ginkgo king". By the end of November, the leaves had almost all fallen out, and the villagers said that in recent years, the "ginkgo king" had become ill, without the previous king's style, and from afar, it looked really poor. This is an extremely rare androgynous ancient ginkgo, it looks like it is composed of 4 or 5 tree poles, but it is the same tree, like a king leading his wife and sisters. Such a precious "ginkgo king", must be protected!
Siam Ancient Town is a famous overseas Chinese town with beautiful scenery, long history and talents, and a famous cultural town in Tengchong. Siam and Heshun are very similar, compared to Heshun, here is more original. The ancient town is divided into upper Siam, middle Siam and lower Siam. It is named after Siam because the river in front of the village is like a belt and resembles Siam. There are many cultural relics in the ancient town of Siam, mostly Ming and Qing architecture, which is the fossil of ancient buildings in Siam.
There are the earliest rural libraries and Wenchang Palace in China. Siam Wenchang Pavilion is still a national insurance unit. Unfortunately, it is not open every time. If you are lucky, you can catch up with the morning market in the town. Good fresh pork 🐷, fat is nearly a finger thick, don't worry about lean meat essence 👍
Tengchong has a food called bait silk, raw material is rice noodles, processed, looks similar to rice noodles. But the taste is very different. The bait silk is more strong, there is a chewing head, with a boiled soup condiment, fresh vegetables and shredded meat, almost the daily breakfast of Tengchong people, the practice is very simple, and it is delicious!
The market in the ancient town of Siam Every morning, the ancient town is noisy, and the nearby villagers bring fresh vegetables and fruits grown in their own fields to start selling on both sides of the street. The price of fresh vegetables is also very cheap. Tomatoes 2.5 yuan a catty, oil wheat vegetables 1.5 yuan a catty. Good quality and cheap, fresh and delicious, pure natural green.
