Beijing Fangshan hides a "time capsule"!
Do you think all of Beijing’s artsy vibes are in 798?
Then you definitely haven’t been to Fangshan’s hidden gem—the 1956 Creative Park!
This is not a newly built trendy spot,
but a state-owned old factory established in 1956,
which used to be an important optical instrument production base in Beijing.
Now it has transformed into a retro industrial-style artistic universe combining art exhibitions, cafes, handmade workshops, and graffiti walls.
No commercial noise, no queues at trendy stores,
just weathered red brick walls, rusty gears, towering chimneys,
and a group of young people quietly painting, drinking coffee, and shooting film.
Take a stroll here,
it’s like opening your parents’ old photo album,
or stepping onto the set of the movie "In the Heat of the Sun."

In this fast-paced era,
we really need a place
to slow down,
· isten to the echoes of the old factory,
see the traces of our parents’ hard work,
and let our hearts
find some warmth amid the concrete and steel.
1956 Creative Park,
it’s not flashy, but it has its own strength;
it’s quiet, yet tells the most touching stories.
This weekend,
stop scrolling on your phone,
come to Fangshan and step into this "time factory."
Maybe you’ll discover—
true romance
is not in the future,
but in those forgotten pasts.

Show More ReviewsThis place was amazing! As an enthusiast of early human history and the evolution of Homo sapiens, I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone with a passion for learning. When I went in December, it was not crowded at all. I felt like I had the whole place to myself. The museum displays were very interesting and well organized. The surrounding area, where the fossils were discovered, was kept up and included many descriptions of each location. My only recommendation is that you take a Didi here and/or take a metro as far as you can. I took a bus from my apartment in central Beijing. It must have take 2 or 3 hours to get here. Keep in mind that it is quite a distance the city. Overall, it was an amazing experience!
