I've always thought that towns are the most attractive places in the UK 🇬🇧. Maybe it's because I'm a tourist. Perhaps people who actually live there would find it boring, but for me, it's the perfect place to relieve stress. In 2024, which towns in the UK 🇬🇧 are must-visits in my opinion? 1️⃣ Cotswolds To be precise, this is a region known as the heart of England, with many unique towns. ✅ Bibury, home to Arlington Row, the postcard of the Cotswolds ✅ Broadway, home to Broadway Tower, which is on the cover of Lonely Planet's UK guide ✅ Bourton-on-the-Water/Upper and Lower Slaughter, where you can take a beautiful countryside walk If you're willing to explore, you can find more than a dozen towns with the same caramel-colored walls, each with its own unique charm. 2️⃣ Newbury Not far from the Cotswolds, this town has beautiful countryside scenery. Most importantly, Highclere Castle, the filming location for Downton Abbey, is located here. 3️⃣ Whitby An ancient fishing village in North Yorkshire, the birthplace of Dracula, Captain Cook's apprenticeship, the Temple of Time from Zelda, Whitby Abbey, the Gothic Festival, the best fish and chips in the UK... There are so many reasons to visit. If you have time, nearby Staithes, Scarborough, and even the filming location for the Hogwarts Express station in Harry Potter are worth a visit. 4️⃣ Tynemouth A town near Newcastle, famous for its beautiful coastline. Although all the towns in the UK with "mouth" in their name are great, this one is still the most worth visiting. 5️⃣ Alnwick A charming town in Northumberland, home to Alnwick Castle, one of the most important filming locations for Harry Potter, and Alnwick Garden, one of the most modern gardens in the world. 6️⃣ Eastbourne This town has the most sunshine in the UK, and the Seven Sisters Cliffs have almost become a symbol of British homes. The stunning scenery is even the first stop for many people visiting the UK. This is just a small part of the must-visit list, and it's concentrated in England. Maybe after visiting the UK, everyone will have their own must-visit list.

While there are several other small towns nearby that you can explore together, we opted for Bourton on the Water as it’s more convenient to get there by bus if you don’t have a driver’s license. From Moreton-in-Marsh train station, you’ll find the bus stop right outside. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as buses run only once an hour, which can be quite infrequent. Upon arriving in Bourton on the Water, the first impression is reminiscent of Giethoorn in the Netherlands. The village is surrounded by a beautiful lake, and within the village, you’ll find preserved aristocratic mansions, ancient stone bridges, and quaint wooden cottages. The lakeside is lined with trees, creating a romantic pastoral landscape that looks like a stunning painting. The village also boasts numerous restaurants and craft shops, making it a perfect spot to relax and unwind if you’re feeling weary of London’s bustling city life.

Cotswolds day trip! Took a train from London to Moreton-in-Marsh which took about 1.5 hours. Took a 40 minute bus ride on 801 from Moreton-in-Marsh to Bourton-on-the-Water. Able to pay on board of bus by tapping credit card (3GBP per ride). Easy to moderate hike from Bourton-on-the-Water to Stow-on-the-Wold through old towns in the Lower Slaughter and Upper Slaughter and fields of yellow flowers (about 8km, ~2 hours). Saw the door at St Edward's Church that was said to be inspiration for the Doors of Durin in Lord of the Rings! Took a 20 minute bus ride on 801 back to Moreton-in-Marsh.
