Could do Better
Entering the theatre was a huge wow factor. We found it fascinating to see how the theatre works & how cleverly scenes were changed by a rope & wooden shaft system. It was also interesting to see how differently they organised the orchestra pit to todays set up. The 45 minute tour included a rather too long video including the break out room in the garden with a banquet & fireworks which aren’t really part of the theatre itself. I was left feeling a little disappointed that we were only allowed in the auditorium and under the stage. Not on stage or even in the wings. Not shown the dressing rooms or at least some of the costume collection. And not shown up to the balcony or VIP box. It felt like we’d been given half a tour. Nevertheless I’m glad I went as it’s an amazing theatre with surprisingly advanced technology for 1766.

The Baroque Theatre is amazing; definitely a must see in Cesky Krumlov. After touring it, we were so impressed that we made a second trip back to Cesky Krumlov two months later to see a performance in the theatre. After the performance, we were able to linger, enjoy the building and nobody rushed us out. Wonderful experience.
