In Yuhou Street, south of Chenzhou City, there is a magical ancient well. This well is made of long stones and is rectangular. It is more than eight feet long, eight or nine feet wide and about one foot deep. The water is clear and there is a huge boulder lying in the well, surrounded by a layer of moss and water plants, just like a big rhino with healthy hair, sinking and playing in the water. This is the famous Rhino Well in Chenzhou, formerly known as "Yongquan".
The Rhino Well, a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit in Hunan Province, is located in the middle section of Yuhou Street in the south of Chenzhou City. It was retained as one of the most important remains of Yuhou Street when it was demolished and reconstructed in 2010. This magical ancient well is made of long stones and is rectangular, with a length of more than three feet (3 meters), a width of eight or nine feet (2.8 meters), and a depth of about one foot (2 meters). The water in the well is warm in winter and cool in summer, and the water quality is particularly pure. It can be seen that there is a huge boulder lying in the well, with a layer of moss and water weeds all over it, just like a large rhino with healthy hair, sinking and playing in the water. Legend has it that in ancient times, Shennong brought nine gods of rhinos to Chenzhou, which made Chenzhou a place with good weather and good life. However, the good times didn't last long, and a evil dragon came from somewhere and brought the plague to Chenzhou. In order to defeat the dragon, nine rhinos fought with it for nine days and nine nights. In the end, the dragon was defeated. Eight rhinos drove the dragon out of Chenzhou and chased it to the East China Sea. Another rhinoceros fell into the well of Yongquan after hurting its foot during the fight and turned into a boulder lying at the bottom of the well. From then on, this well was called "Rhino Well". Although the god rhino in the well turned into a stone, its spirituality was still not lost. Seeing the plague brought by the evil dragon raging in Chenzhou, causing the people to live in a desolate state, it spewed a cool and sweet spring water from its mouth. People who are sick with diseases can heal by drinking a well. Therefore, people also call Rhino Well as "Yuquan". Unlike ancient wells in many cities, Rhino Wells did not lose their brilliance due to the lapse of time. Although tap water is now very convenient, the surrounding residents still retain the habit of taking water from ancient wells.
I want to go and have a look, walk outside and see the landscape of the motherland.
