What people are saying:

Cloud Gate is a public art sculpture by an Indian-born British artist, r, in Chicago's Millennium Park. It was built between 2004 and 2006 because of its pod shape, nicknamed "pod." The sculpture is welded together by 168 stainless steel plates, and it is polished below the surface and can not see the seams. The size is 10 meters X20 meters X13 meters, weighing 100 tons. Kapoor's design was inspired by liquid helium, which reflects and distorts the city's outline. Visitors can walk under the 4-meter-high arch of the Cloud Gate.

Additional Information

Introduction

The Cloud Gate is also known as The Bean because it looks like a bean. It is located in Chicago"s Millennium Park. The sleek exterior of this sculpture reflects the distorted Chicago skyline, making it a popular photography spot for tourists in Chicago. Cloud Gate is known as a symbolic and innovative work. The mirror effect of the statue is reminiscent of the distorting mirrors in previous amusement parks. But there is a significant use for it to make the giant Cloud Gate look much lighter.
