#yunnanspots Riding a motorbike to Xizhou Town was pure freedom. The road from Dali passed golden rice fields and quiet villages framed by the Cangshan Mountains. When I arrived, the town was crowded and lively. Locals chatting in Bai language, markets opening, the smell of fresh baked baba bread filling the air. I parked and wandered through courtyards with carved wooden doors and whitewashed walls. Everything felt slow and sincere. Xizhou isn’t just a stop. It’s a glimpse into everyday Yunnan life, best seen with the wind on your face. Take your camera with you. There will be many good spots to enjoy here. 🌤️

Xizhou is only 18 kilometers away from Dali Ancient City, east of Erhai Lake and west of Cangshan Mountain. It is a quiet and exquisite thousand-year-old town. Xizhou Ancient Town is not big, if well planned, only half a day is needed to play efficiently. Below, combined with my personal experience of visiting Xizhou this year, I have summarized the following guide, please accept it👇🏻 🍀Tour route: Enter the ancient town from Xizhou Justice Gate → Ancient Banyan Tree → Yan Family Courtyard → Corner Tower → Wheat Field → Hai She Park (If you have enough time, you can also experience Xizhou tie-dyeing, about 2 hours) 👀What to see in Xizhou Ancient Town? ❶Ancient architectural group of the Bai nationality: Xizhou is an important town where the Bai nationality lives, so there are many Bai residential architectural groups preserved here. The unique house structure of three squares and one screen wall, four squares and five courtyards, carved beams and painted buildings, overlapping bucket arches, flying eaves and other painted decorations, can let you enjoy enough at once. Not to be missed are, Yan Family Courtyard Museum (the mansion of a local rich merchant more than 100 years ago) 🎫Ticket: 18 yuan/person ⏰Opening hours: 8:30-18:00 ❷Ancient trees reaching the sky: ◆Not far from the Justice Gate, there is a 500-year-old ancient banyan tree, which is still thriving. ◆The ancient tree where Liu Yifei shed tears in the drama 'Go to the place with wind' is a 300-year-old big green tree, outside Xizhou Ancient Town, you need to navigate to 'Hetianli Boutique Homestay', and you can reach it in about ten minutes on foot. ❸Corner Tower: Xizhou must check in. If you want to take undisturbed photos, try to arrive before 8:30. Otherwise, you will have to take photos in the cracks of horse carriages, cars and crowds, and it is difficult to take good pictures. ❹Large fields of wheat swaying in the wind: March-May is wheat field, early March to see rapeseed flowers, April to see green. June-October is paddy field, mid-September turns golden. I went at the end of March, so I saw the new green of spring. 👉🏻What to eat in Xizhou Ancient Town? Fragrant and hot Xizhou Baba. In fact, there is no need to stick to eating Xizhou Baba in Xizhou. The ones sold in the small streets outside are freshly made, cheap and delicious. I personally think that sweet (brown sugar filling) is more delicious than salty, the freshly baked one has the most delicious pot aroma, brown sugar flowing heart, but be careful of scalding. 🚌Transportation in Xizhou: ✔Self-driving: about 20-30 minutes. ✔Bus: Take the bus from the Cangshan Gate of Dali Ancient City to the Justice Gate of Xizhou, 20 yuan/person. ✔Minibus: After crossing the road in March Street, you can see a bunch of minibuses, about 7 yuan/person to Xizhou, and the car leaves when it is full. But the drop-off point is about 1km from the ancient town. ✔Taxi: You can go directly to the vicinity of the Justice Gate, about 60 yuan for Didi. ✔Riding an electric car: about 1 hour. 👀From Xizhou to Hai She Park: In addition, it is about 3km from the wheat field of Xizhou Ancient Town to Hai She Park. You can take a taxi or a small yellow tricycle. Braiding small tips: Many girls in the ancient town will enthusiastically ask you if you want to braid your hair, I was 10 yuan for 5 strands at the time. The girls' techniques are super fast, and it is indeed very photogenic to take pictures after braiding your hair. It is recommended that sisters match the color of the hair band according to the clothing!
