Goldfish plants are not uncommon, but it's rather rare to see a whole sea of flowers. After the Spring Festival holiday, I came across a vast and colorful sea of goldfish flowers in an obscure little park, experiencing for the first time its vibrant colors and festive atmosphere. The Sanshan Forest Park in Foshan, adjacent to Guangzhou, is not large in area and is even bisected by high-speed rail tracks. Usually, it's just a rural park for locals to relax in. Since the large lawn was planted with goldfish plants, during the blooming season, it has surprisingly attracted many visitors from Guangzhou and Foshan to come and take photos. I too was led by friends' social media posts to visit Sanshan Forest Park. Before even entering, I glimpsed the brightly colored flowers through the gaps in the trees. Approaching the lawn, I was struck by the openness and beauty. On a slope of nearly 4,000 square meters, densely packed with colorful goldfish flowers, it looked like a huge tapestry spread across the lawn, or a rainbow descended from the sky. The undulating terrain, coupled with the gentle sway of the flowers in the breeze, resembled colorful waves rolling. Although the lawn only features goldfish plants, the colors are far from monotonous. Visually, there are shades of rose, scarlet, pink, orange-yellow, and light yellow. Each cluster is charming and each flower feels silky. Accompanied by green leaves and bees and butterflies fluttering among the flowers, it's a captivating picture of purples and reds. There are paths through the sea of flowers, allowing you to walk among them. I crouched down for a closer look. Each goldfish plant stood erect, with multiple flowers blooming in succession at the top of the stems. The petals split into a bilabial shape, much like the tail of a swimming goldfish. Each plant had dozens of goldfish in the same color, and the number of fish in the entire sea of flowers was simply countless. Being there felt like swimming with fish in clear waves, as if one were in a painting. Bees and butterflies danced among the flowers. At first, I thought they were attracted by the scent of the flowers and leaned in to smell, but unfortunately, there was no fragrance as I had imagined. The bees and butterflies must have been drawn by the bright colors of the goldfish flowers, which also originate from the distant Mediterranean coast. I feel that the goldfish flower is an auspicious plant. In terms of its name, 'goldfish' implies wealth and abundance. Its rich colors symbolize liveliness and prosperity, and its shape suggests a lively temperament. It is said that goldfish have a memory span of only seven seconds, perhaps these flowers could also represent purity and tranquility. I looked up the language of goldfish flowers online and found that different colors have different meanings. The language of the yellow goldfish flower is 'a house full of gold and silver', the purple goldfish flower means 'good fortune from the east', the red goldfish flower signifies 'great luck', and the pink goldfish flower means 'perfect happiness and full moon'. These auspicious phrases clearly reflect people's good wishes. In fact, I prefer the positive and tenacious character of the goldfish plant. Its flowers, like an open mouth, are full of desire and expectation.
