"The Nearest Distance" is renowned writer Alai's heartfelt ode to this land. "Crossing towering mountains and deep valleys without climbing, standing amidst snow-covered forests without braving the snow, and towering atop mountain peaks without ascending" perfectly captures its breathtaking essence. The story from the film "The Captain" seems to soar overhead, portraying a composed and resolute group of heroes. "The Red Chieftain" fought here, composing an epic of ethnic unity.

Dagu Glacier holds a pivotal position in the cultural tourism development of Aba Prefecture and even Sichuan Province, playing a positive role in promoting the ecological demonstration zone of northwest Sichuan. Located in the heart of Aba Prefecture within Heishui County, this attraction boasts abundant natural resources, rich cultural heritage, vast development potential, and a promising market. It features China's northernmost monsoon maritime modern mountain glaciers on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, integrating glacial peaks, colorful forests, red rocks, alpine lakes, meadows, and rare wildlife. The area harmoniously blends profound red culture with vibrant ethnic traditions, offering pristine air, fertile land, crystal-clear water, and abundant oxygen—a true paradise. Crowned as a National Geopark, Provincial Nature Reserve, and Eco-Tourism Demonstration Zone, it's an ideal destination for snow experiences, sightseeing, wellness retreats, summer escapes, and scientific research. As Aba's meticulously crafted premium tourist destination following Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, and Siguniang Mountain, Dagu Glacier shines as a radiant pearl along the Great Jiuzhai Loop and Tibetan-Qiang Cultural Corridor. It anchors four major tourism brands—"Grand Glaciers, Snow Mountains, Colorful Forests, and Long March Routes"—serving as both the backbone of Aba's all-for-one tourism development and the cornerstone for central Aba's tourism resurgence.

In the winter of 2019, this "Winter Snow Paradise" gained immense popularity and became one of the fastest-growing travel destinations in the province. Seizing the opportunity, the area expanded its "Four-Season Glacier" concept—spring flower viewing with playful snow, summer ice appreciation with snow activities, autumn red leaves and colorful forests, and winter snow paradise—making it more vibrant and appealing. It also enhanced eco-tourism, wellness travel, leisure trips, and specialty adventure experiences, extending the 10-month snow tourism season, promoting the 4860 Glacier Coffee cultural tourism series, and highlighting ten viral photo spots. These efforts propelled the attraction toward a younger, trendier, and higher-quality direction. From vast green fields to vibrant blooms and then to a snowy wonderland, Dagu is a place where you can play with snow in summer, a cool retreat with temperatures around 20°C, and a natural oxygen bar with negative oxygen ions reaching 8,360P. Here, you can stroll under romantic spring snow, escape the summer heat in refreshing coolness, admire autumn's colorful foliage, and savor steaming coffee atop snow-capped winter peaks while reflecting on life's beauty. "All-season snow, all-time experiences" will dazzle you with endless scenery and delightful moments, leaving you enchanted and eager to return.

How can such a beautiful place exist? Spending two days and one night here felt like a magical dream. We went to the viewpoint in the evening, but it suddenly started raining. We got soaked for a while but didn't rush back to the guesthouse because it was just too beautiful!
This place is less commercialized compared to many famous attractions, which makes the experience feel more raw and impressive. The scenery is stunning. Snow-capped mountains, wide open landscapes, and fresh air make the long journey feel justified. Taking the cable car up is already an experience on its own, with amazing views along the way.Be prepared for the altitude. It is high, and you will feel it, especially at the top. Walk slowly and don’t rush. Oxygen canisters are available on-site, which helps, but basic fitness and pacing matter more than people admit. The facilities are decent and organized, and the route is clear even for first-time visitors. Weather changes fast, so proper clothing is not optional. If you dress poorly or ignore the cold, you will suffer and won’t enjoy it.Overall, Dagu Glacier feels more like a natural adventure than a tourist attraction. If you enjoy mountains, snow, and dramatic landscapes, this is a great place to visit. I recommend it!
- Magnificent landscape: It has the world's lowest, largest and youngest modern mountain glaciers. The 13 glaciers connected end to end are spectacular, and it is known as China's first colorful glacier ice and snow paradise. Take the world's highest sightseeing cable car to the top of the 4,860-meter mountain, overlooking the rolling snow-capped mountains and enjoying the stunning beauty of the "Golden Mountain in the Sunlight". - Rich ecology: The scenic area integrates glaciers, snow-capped mountains, forests, wild animals, and meadows. The biodiversity is complete, the vertical distribution of plants is obvious, and there are rare wild animals such as Tibetan macaques, forming a beautiful picture of natural ecology. - Rich culture: There is a profound Tibetan culture here. The Tibetan villages along the way have unique architectural styles, colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and you can also taste special foods such as butter tea and barley cakes, and experience the customs and customs of the hospitable Tibetan compatriots. - Unique experience: The world's highest "loneliest coffee shop" provides tourists with a unique experience of enjoying coffee on the top of the snow-capped mountains. In addition, the scenic area also has an observation deck, a glacier park, etc., which are suitable for strolling and enjoying the scenery, and there are also areas suitable for parent-child play. - High altitude: The average altitude of the scenic area is above 3,800 meters, which is easy to cause altitude sickness, which may cause physical discomfort to tourists, and preventive measures need to be taken in advance - Expensive tickets: The price of the full-price package (ticket + bus ticket + cableway) is 370 yuan, which is higher than other scenic spots, and the prices in the scenic area are also relatively high, and the overall cost of play is relatively high. - Limited play time: The essence of the scenic spot is at the top of the mountain, and it takes a long time to take the sightseeing bus and cable car, and the actual play time is relatively short. If the itinerary is tight, it may be rushed. - Seasonal restrictions: In summer, the snow on the top of the mountain decreases, and the scenery is relatively monotonous. The best season for playing is concentrated in late autumn to winter. At this time, the snow scenery is beautiful, but the time is short, and the weather is cold, so warm and cold protection measures need to be taken.
The snow scene is really beautiful! But it consumes oxygen. Everyone must bring an oxygen bottle. It's so cold up there. 🥶 I was really frozen. The wind was strong and the altitude sickness was unbearable. After coming back, I summarized some lessons learned and shared them with everyone to avoid thunder! - 📍Navigation: Maqiao, Luhua Town, Heishui County, Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province 📍Tickets: Tickets 120, sightseeing bus 70, cable car 180 📍Opening hours: 8:00-17:00 - ⬇️Recent weather of Dagu Glacier ❄️There is a layer of snow on the top of Dagu Glacier, and the surrounding area is a combination of snow and autumn scenery Temperature: -5°~14°, the temperature drops as the altitude increases Weather: Occasional snowfall, mainly sunny, the top of the mountain can See the snow scene under the sun - 👇👇About equipment 🔸Winter clothes: You must wear thick, windproof and warm jackets or down jackets. You don’t need to rent winter clothes. There are also clothes for rent on the top of the mountain 🔸Oxygen cylinders: It is best to buy them in advance in Chengdu. They are also sold in the scenic area, but the price is very high, 60 per bottle. Generally, one bottle is enough for one person 🔸Food: You can bring some chocolate, bread, and snacks to replenish your energy 🔸Equipment: The ultraviolet rays on the snow mountain are strong , pay attention to sun protection, remember to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes, snow is easy to reflect light, you can't open your eyes without sunglasses, the wind is very strong on the top of the mountain, too much wind will give you a headache, and you must wear a hat all the time - 👇Some small suggestions ❶If you meet someone selling shoe covers and oxygen tanks in Heishui County, buy them if the price is right, otherwise the price will double when you wait until the entrance of the scenic area or on the snow mountain ❷Be sure to wear non-slip shoes, pay attention to keeping warm, and be prepared to prevent altitude sickness in advance, don't be fooled by the sales routine at the entrance ❸If you have severe altitude sickness, you can go to the coffee house on the top of the mountain, but you must consume before you can sit down, the price is around 40-80 ❹The Dagu Glacier is 4,800+ meters above sea level. If you move faster, you will feel slightly dizzy and uncomfortable, so you must move slowly ❺Be sure to go straight to the top of the mountain to avoid queuing during peak hours, and the sunlight on the top of the mountain is not good if you go up the mountain late ❻Although the temperature is low, the ultraviolet rays are very toxic! Be sure to take good sun protection ❼You can bring instant noodles and boiled water. Food is expensive on the snowy mountain. Mini instant noodles cost 10r, mineral water 10r, and corn 15r - 🌟My tour route Day 1: Chengdu-Shuangqiaogou, Siguniang Mountain-Lixiaolu-Gulugou Day 2: Gulugou-Bipenggou-Heishui County Day 3: Heishui County-Dagu Glacier-Chengdu -
Dagu Glacier is the last stop of my trip to western Sichuan. The total cost is about 500 yuan, including tickets, food and accommodation. The first stop of this tour is Jinhou Lake. There are many cute monkeys. However, if they see food in your hand, they will come to grab it. They are very fierce and will dirty your clothes. It is very cold on January 20th, but Jinhou Lake is not frozen. The scenery is also beautiful and pleasant. Then there is Fairy Lake. In the sixth picture, Fairy Lake is now completely frozen. The lake is covered with white snow, but it can't cover up its beauty. After taking pictures, the shuttle bus will take us to the entrance of the cableway. Dagu Glacier is mainly expensive for tickets and transportation. The scenery on the top of the mountain is as shown in the picture. The weather is clear and the scenery is beautiful. As for the altitude reaction, it is not very scary. It's just a little dizzy. I didn't finish a bottle of oxygen. In general, it's okay. Those who like snow mountains can come to play. We are traveling with a group this time. Most of the group tours leave the scenic area at around 1:20. Our tour time is only about four hours, and the shuttle bus and cableway time in the scenic area takes about two hours. You need to pay attention to the time when you visit. Later, we took a bus from the cableway down to the visitor center without stopping for one stop. It took about an hour
It is still a good place to check in in winter. It is recommended to go during off-peak hours, otherwise it will be full of people and you will need to remove other tourists when taking a photo. However, the scenery is relatively simple, but the air is very good. If you go, bring some dry food with you, as the things sold in the scenic area are quite expensive. It is not recommended for friends with severe altitude sickness to go there, and it is recommended not to wash your hair a few days before going there.
Dagu Glacier is located in Heishui County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. It is part of the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and belongs to the Qionglai Mountains of the Hengduan Mountains. It is one of the world's lowest, largest and youngest modern glaciers. It is also the closest glacier to a large city and is known as the "closest distance". 1. The surface of the glacier is pure white, in sharp contrast to the surrounding snow-capped mountains, forests, and meadows. 2. Cultural background: Aba Prefecture, where the Dagu Glacier is located, is a settlement of Tibetans and Qiang people. Visitors can experience the local ethnic culture and feel the traditional customs, architectural styles and religious beliefs of the Tibetans and Qiang people. - Best travel time: May to October each year is the best tourist season for Dagu Glacier. The climate is relatively mild and the glacier landscape is the most spectacular. - Altitude reaction: Due to the high altitude, tourists need to pay attention to prevent altitude reaction. It is recommended to prepare for physical adaptation in advance. - Transportation: Starting from Chengdu, it takes about 6-7 hours to reach Heishui County by car, and then transfer to the scenic area transportation to enter the Dagu Glacier Scenic Area.
