Tai Po Railway Museum, formerly the old Tai Po Market Station built in 1913, still preserves the station perfectly, full of historical atmosphere. The traditional architectural style of the station, combined with exquisite roof decorations and brick walls, adds a strong cultural vibe to the whole environment. Inside the old Tai Po Market Station building, there are many exhibits with detailed explanations of the railway's various operations. Outside the building, there are several retired trains for visitors to climb on and take photos. What impressed me most was the old carriage with wooden benches, exuding the simplicity and elegance of a bygone era. Every exhibit tells the story of how the railway connected communities and propelled Hong Kong's development. After enjoying lunch, take the MTR to Hung Hom Station to visit the "Station View" railway exhibition and experience another part of railway history. A memorable highlight of the exhibition is the chance to get up close to the first-generation electric trains again; the orange seats bring back memories of past train rides. The whole place is filled with vintage trains and packed with nostalgic charm, like stepping straight back in time! You’ll find No. 51 “Sir Alexander Grantham,” No. 60 “Peter Quick,” the Sha Tau Kok branch line narrow-gauge steam locomotive, the red No. 002, and the green No. 223 retro carriage. #HongKongMuseumGuide Today, I want to introduce a lesser-known spot in Hong Kong, the "Hong Kong Railway Museum." It's definitely worth a visit, perfect for dates or family outings! The venue isn’t very large (see pictures 10-12 for details), but I spent over two hours taking photos 🤭! Inside the museum, there are locomotives 🚂, historic train cars 🚞, signals 🚦, the old Tai Po Market train station building 🚉, and a museum office selling souvenirs (unfortunately, I didn’t notice it at the time 🙂↕️, I really want to know what souvenirs are available!). When I visited, the train station building was under renovation, but it didn’t affect taking photos of the trains at all! You can even step inside the train cars and immerse yourself in the 80s and 90s train seating experience, making for great photo opportunities 👍🏻! The tracks, windows, and connections between train cars are also excellent spots for photos. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the lazy "Train Conductor Cat" 🐱 under the train! 👗 For outfit tips, avoid dark colors, especially black, as they blend into the background easily; bright, light, or white clothing works better for photos. ⚠️ If you’re wearing shorts and short sleeves, remember to spray mosquito repellent. Weathered tracks, old station signs, green train carriages, and vintage signal lights quietly tell the story of Hong Kong’s transportation evolution from colonial times to a modern city. Countless people once departed from here, traveling between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, shuttling through the New Territories, carrying farewells and reunions, witnessing the city’s rapid development. Now, the hustle and bustle have faded, leaving only a quiet and profound sense of history. Walking on the old tracks, you can almost hear the echoes of train whistles from the past.
