With a history of 600 years, it is the largest and most complete ancient post station architectural complex existing in China
Jimingyi Ancient City Jimingyi Ancient City
is the largest and most complete ancient post station existing in the country, and is also a precious remnant of China's postal and military relay system, with significant historical, artistic, and scientific value. It is known as a 'living fossil' of postal archaeology and secret service archaeology.
Jimingyi was originally established as a relay route by Genghis Khan during his western campaign, and was expanded in the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (AD 1420) to become the first major station for the Dinghuo Prefecture to enter the capital. There are as many as 17 temples from the Ming and Qing dynasties within the city, most of which are well-preserved. The Ming and Qing murals remaining in the temples are still colorful, and the figures are lifelike. Its unique historical and cultural landscape and postal value have attracted a large number of visitors and film and television drama writers from home and abroad. It has also been listed by the World Monuments Fund as one of the 100 most endangered cultural heritages in the world, which shows the high value of its cultural relics.
Jimingyi Ancient City is located at the foot of Jiming Mountain on the north bank of the Yanghe River in Huailai County, covering an area of 22,000 square meters, with a nearly square plan and a city wall perimeter of 1891.8 meters. There are 4 corner towers evenly distributed around the city wall, with one city gate each on the east and west sides, equipped with gate towers, and smoke towers outside the city. The five roads inside the city crisscross, dividing the city into twelve areas of varying sizes. Existing relics include the Post Commissioner's Office and the Public Mansion Courtyard, as well as seven temples such as Taishan Temple, Wenchang Palace, Chenghuang Temple, Dragon God Temple, God of Wealth Temple, White-robed Guanyin Hall, and Yongning Temple, as well as the Hejia Courtyard, where Empress Dowager Cixi and Emperor Guangxu stayed when they fled to Xi'an.
Jimingyi Ancient City's travel guide:
There are farmhouses in Jimingyi City where you can stay and dine, with each room generally costing 50-80 yuan and offering basic conditions. You can choose to stay in Xiahuayuan District of Zhangjiakou City or Shacheng in Huailai County, both of which have more mature reception conditions, with various grades of hotels and guesthouses available for accommodation, with standard rooms in ordinary guesthouses costing about a hundred yuan.
The tourism development of Jimingyi Ancient City is still quite limited, and it is not as beautiful as the ancient towns of Pingyao and Xitang, but rather appears to be more dilapidated and disorderly, with more primitive buildings, etc. Please choose whether to visit according to personal preference.

Very good ancient town, well preserved, the explanation staff is very professional, very enthusiastic, to maximize the original appearance of the ancient city, there are many residents in the city, maintain their own living habits, there are many ancient buildings in the ancient city.
Jiming Yucheng, founded in the Yuan Dynasty, in 1219 Genghis Khan led the soldiers to the west, opened up the road on the road into the west city, set up "stand red". The old appearance of the ancient city is better preserved, especially in winter, not far from Jiming Mountain and the residential houses of the earth wall gray tiles constitute the unique scenery of the north, and the north wind of Zhangjiakou also adds a little charm to this place.
Not bad attractions, antique, original, is not high commercialization, too old, need a tour guide to take, but also interesting, it is a bit boring to go shopping, in addition, the city wall is cautious to climb, easy to go up, if you go down, many of the mouths are steep slopes, not very good.
Suitable for leisure travel + history lovers who are not in a hurry, because it is very authentic, which also means that the development is insufficient.
Not bad Ancient Town, but the level of development is not particularly high, there are not many attractions to play inside. Mainly it is a main street to go in, but it is not bad to take a walk around the city wall, and you can also look at the entire station and the surrounding scenery.
