Wat Phra Yai is also known as the Big Buddha Temple. It is famous due to a 15-meters tall golden Buddha statue inside. The temple is located on Koh Fan, near Bang Rak Beach. Originally there wasn't a road between the beach and the temple. Later a road was constructed by building a causeway on the sea and people were more easily able to come to the temple. This grand temple that is dedicated to the Buddha is situated on the top of the mountain. From a high vantage point visitors can see the oceans and islands around. It is a very fantastic view.

“Big Buddha Temple sits on a small rocky island”
know locally as Wat Phra Yai, its golden, 12-metre-tall seated Buddha statue was built in 1972 and remains one of the island’s most popular attractions.
the big Buddha sits in the mara posture, with the left hand’s palm up resting on the lap and the right hand facing down, the fingers hanging over the knee and grazing the ground. it depicts a time during Buddha’s journey to enlightenment where he successfully subdued the temptations and dangers thrust at him by the devil-figure Mara by meditating and remaining calm. the pose is a symbol of steadfastness, purity and enlightenment.
Big Buddha Temple is one of the landmarks of Koh Samui and the most famous temple in the area. In fact, the temple is very small, and a golden Buddha with a height of 12 meters is enshrined in the middle. Because there is no high-rise building on Koh Samui, this golden Buddha statue can be seen from the air and nearby open space. After a long flight of stairs, in the front is the place where the Buddha is located. The Big Buddha Temple is mainly surrounded by a small square around the Buddha. From the corridor on the side of the Big Buddha statue, you can also see the scenery of Bo Phut Beach, which is an excellent place to watch the sunset from. There is also a four-faced Buddha below the statue of the Buddha. Although it is not as popular as tourist attractions in Bangkok, some people still come here to worship.
The Great Buddha Temple of Samui is the most famous temple in Koh Samui and a landmark of the island. The temple worships a large Buddha statue. This 12-meter-high statue of a golden statue is clearly visible in the air and on land several kilometers away. Temples are not allowed to wear shoes, nor can they wear slings and shorts. If they are too exposed, they will be required to wrap them up. Fortunately, I wore a sunscreen shirt with sleeves and I was not asked to pack them. There is a circle around the Buddha statue. It is said that all knocking will bring good luck to yourself and it is very effective. The temple, which is dedicated to the Buddha, is built on a hilltop and looks up. The surrounding waters and nearby islands have a panoramic view.
