If you want an experience that includes Chinese history, culture, art, and food, this is the place! Zhouzhuang isn't far from the heart of Suzhou, and every part of this water township is delightful. The bridges, canals, and alleyways look like they fell out of paintings. The markets are extensive, with food and art and embroidery that dazzles the senses. Zhouzhuang ancient town is huge! There are lots of things to see, do and enjoy. Expect to spend at least 2 days if you really want to get everything in. You can find souvenirs, artists and painters of all kind (I got my name written on a grain of a rice and placed in a necklace). It was pretty cool to me even though a bit pricey-ish; I paid 80+ yuan but hey, I wanted to be a tourist 😅. The boat rides are awesome too, very relaxing gives and you an eyeful of the place. The ancient town of Zhouzhuang is popularly known as the Venezia of China. This water town is located 30km away from Suzhou. As cultural gem, this town is amazingly preserved, and most of the structures date from Ming and Qing dynasties. Town is surrounded by lake and canals, you can even see people fishing in some areas. You can walk around the town or enjoy this amazing journey in a gondola. Some of the guides will even sing during their trip to give you the authentic experience. This ancient town retains history in each building, bridge and stone. Few towns in China maintain their authenticity, and the canals give this town an additional charm you can’t find elsewhere. There are few coffee shops, restaurants and shopping locals open along the town. Although are relatively expensive. Some locations are empty, or abandoned. Boat ride costs 180-220 RMB for an hour and a half. Zhouzhuang is a beautiful water town in the Jiangnan region that is widely known. The town is crisscrossed with rivers, the scenery is pleasant, and the ancient buildings are built along the river, reflecting the unique charm of Jiangnan. The Shuangqiao under the pen of painter Chen Yifei depicts the softness and tranquility of Zhouzhuang's small bridges and flowing water. Nanhu is located on the south side of the ancient town, with a wide lake surface and beautiful scenery. At night, the lights of Zhouzhuang flicker, adding a bit of mystery and romance. The architecture of Zhouzhuang is mainly Jiangnan residences, among which nearly a hundred well-preserved ancient houses are mostly from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The ancient town is surrounded by water on all sides, with streets formed by rivers and markets formed by streets, forming a unique pattern. On the water lanes of Zhouzhuang, 14 ancient stone bridges built in the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties are well preserved. You can take bus 260 directly from Jinxi Ancient Town to Zhouzhuang Ancient Town, get off at the penultimate station, Xin Pailou, no need to ask the driver, the drivers here are not very friendly. After getting off the bus, the gate of Zhouzhuang is on your left hand side. Walk straight ahead and there are two restaurants, yes, they are all farmhouse restaurants. The dishes are actually similar, the prices won't be much different from those in the scenic area. You can have a meal first and ask the restaurant owner to buy tickets for you, 88 yuan each, you need to bring your ID. After eating, go straight ahead, turn right at the first intersection and you will see the main entrance of Zhouzhuang Park. There are shops selling Wan San's trotters on both sides. You can buy them when you leave the scenic area or you can buy them and have them delivered directly. The prices vary a lot, but they are similar in every shop. Zhouzhuang is completely surrounded, don't think about sneaking in through small roads. Unless you can float on water or have a boatwoman to pick you up, it's impossible to get in for free, the whole scenic area is surrounded by water. After entering the main entrance of Zhouzhuang, you can first take a group photo at the central screen wall, then it is recommended to visit the museum on the right hand side first, then follow the left hand side all the way according to the order of Shuangqiao, Chen Yifei's former residence, ancient stage, Wan San's water tomb, Zhang's Hall, Shen's Hall, Nanhu Autumn Moon Garden, Ye Chucang's former residence, Chengxu Taoist Temple, and Mi Lou. You can walk back to the starting point at the end, there are some scenic spots on both sides of the river in the middle area, adjust according to time. If you don't plan to stay overnight in Zhouzhuang or plan to stay here, it is recommended to leave the park before 17:00, otherwise there will really be no buses. The bus station is about 15 minutes' walk from the main entrance of the scenic area, ignore if you have a car.
