Additional Information

Introduction

Daigo Temple (or Daigo-Ji) is a World Cultural Heritage site built in the year 874 and is the head temple of the Shingon Buddhist sect. Apart from a five-storied pagoda, the rest of the temple suffered the consequences of war and were mostly destroyed. In 1598, the Daigo temple was rebuilt for Toyotomi Hideyoshi's cherry blossom viewing parties. The Reihokan Museum on the grounds has special Spring and Autumn exhibitions to showcase the treasures of the temple. On the second Sunday of every April, there is the Ho-Taiko Hanami Gyoretsu, a reenactment of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's spectacular cherry blossom viewing parades.
