The Autumn Splendor of Longji Rice Terraces: A Heart-stirring Experience Amidst Rolling Golden Waves Having grown up in the countryside and seen countless rice terraces, I never imagined the scenery of the Longji Rice Terraces would captivate me so completely. October marks the peak viewing season for the Longji Rice Terraces in Guilin. The cascading rice paddies are ablaze with golden hues, as if the earth has been carpeted in gold. A gentle autumn breeze stirs the heavy rice ears, creating waves of golden light that are refreshing and unforgettable. From the foot of the mountain to the summit, the endless terraces resemble natural golden steps, or the fingerprints of the earth, showcasing the idyllic rural landscape of northern Guangxi. The villages nestled at the foot of the mountains are like unpolished gems embraced by the terraces, perfectly blending the vibrancy of the terraces with the warmth of everyday life. White-walled, gray-tiled houses, arranged in a staggered pattern along the valley floor, resemble stars cradled by a "golden carpet," spreading out in neat outlines across the yellow fields. Gone is the hustle and bustle of the city, leaving only the tranquility of coexisting with the terraced fields. Looking into the distance, swirling clouds and mist shroud the distant mountains, which, together with the golden waves of rice and the charmingly arranged stilted houses, create a dreamlike pastoral landscape. Visiting Guilin in October, strolling through the Longji Rice Terraces, slowly admiring the golden waves, and immersing oneself in the gentle breeze, is a unique and splendid rendezvous with autumn. This is the most moving memory of the Longji Rice Terraces in Guilin.
Review: On 05/09/2025, I visited the below viewpoints from the Longji rice terrace fields:i) Golden Buddha Peakii) Phoenix looking backiii) "Eagle stretching wings" Viewing DeckIt is a once in a life experience if you do not have this kind of fields in your country. They were amazing!! I walked from the entrance uphill to the viewpoints. In this way you get to experience the fields as the path uphill is through the fields. The first stop is the entrance of the Longji rice terrace fields where you can buy the entrance ticket for the villages. After the verification of the entrance ticket, you are transferred to the location of the viewpoints you have booked.Transport: Ticket from a local from Guilinbei to get me to the bus stop for the Longji rice terrace fields 85 RMB. The return ticket was purchased from the drop off at the price of 65 RMB.
There are terraced fields, and the scenery looks quite nice. Those who haven't been can check it out, but the locals aren't great; parking fees are outrageous and severely damage the image of ethnic minorities, especially the Yao people!
I arrived at the Longji Terraces at the end of the National Day holiday. There was no traffic jam, and the number of tourists was not crowded. The overall experience was good. Our family of four took a taxi directly to the Zhuangjie parking lot. We needed to climb a flight of stairs to the hotel, which was very close to the "Thousand-Layer Sky Ladder" of the No. 2 Observation Deck of Jinkeng Dazhai. The terraces were all yellow in October, which was very spectacular, as if living in an oil painting. I got up early and climbed up to the observation deck to watch the sunrise. The sun came out from the mountain, so it was half an hour later than the normal sunrise time, and the morning glow was also beautiful. You can rent ethnic costumes to take pictures, and the film output rate is high. The people on the mountain are very friendly and will take the initiative to say hello. The temperature difference between morning and evening on the mountain is large, and the mountain breeze is still quite cool at night, so you must keep warm.

20230316 Full day: 1. "Longji Terraces" is a famous ethnic minority terrace group around Guilin. Not only is the rural scenery magnificent and colorful, but it also has a long history. It was built in the Song Dynasty and reached its current scale in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It can be called the "World Terraces Hometown" and is an important agricultural cultural heritage in the world. There are many Zhuang and Yao ethnic minority villages near the scenic area, which is a good place for health and vacation. The scenic area is an open scenic area in the mountains and forests, mainly divided into two major areas: "Ping'an Zhuang Terraces" and "Jinkeng Dazhai Red Yao Terraces". ① Address: Longji Town, Longsheng Autonomous Region, Guilin City. ② Transportation: Not accessible, it is easy to park by car. ③ Peak season: around May (the sky is reflected when the terraces are filled with water and not planted), around October (golden in the harvest season). ④Time: 3 hours 2. I bought a one-day tour product on Ctrip. After the minibus entered the gate of the scenic area, it still took 10 kilometers to reach the "Huangluo Yao Village Long Hair Village", which is located at the foot of the Ping'an Zhuang Terraced Fields. It is known as the "World's No. 1 Long Hair Village" and is the only Yao village (Red Yao) among the "Longji Thirteen Villages". Red Yao, White Pants Yao, Backpack Yao, Indigo Yao, and Pan Yao are all branches of the Yao ethnic group. As soon as you get off the bus, there are all kinds of Yao aunties selling woven products. Most of the young men and women in the village have left their hometowns to work. We first visited one of the 60 households in the village. It is a real residential house. The owner, the old lady, is 90 years old and sells special products by the way. They prefer cash payment because the cash they receive is their own. The money will flow into the mobile phones of their children who work outside, and the money will not be in their pockets. It's very interesting. The first floor of the house is a warehouse full of firewood, and the second floor is a living room. When the Yao youth courts, they have to climb up along the pillars of the house. If the girl likes the boy, she will pull him up, and if she doesn't like him, she will splash foot washing water. 3. The "Huangluo Yao Village Song and Dance Field" next to it has a performance every day, with a ticket price of 80 yuan. The performance time is not fixed. It will start when there are enough tourists. It started at 11:15 that day, and we just caught up. The first half of the performance was mainly singing and dancing. The middle part was to invite male tourists to get married on stage. The four male tourists on the stage stepped on the toes of whichever dancer they liked. Most of the dancers were middle-aged and elderly women. The few beautiful girls were picked first, such as the big beauty who led the singing. The tour guide said that she had to give a red envelope privately to interact on stage, similar to what happened yesterday in "Liu Sanjie Grand View Garden" (4A). Finally, the most exciting long hair theme showed how to wash and braid long hair. The longest hair was 1.8 meters long, winning the Guinness World Record for "the longest hair in a group". The wall behind the stage can be raised. The scene of nearly 20 long-haired grandmothers washing their hair against the green mountains is impressive and unforgettable. At the end, tourists can spend 10 yuan to take a photo with 20 Hongyao grandmothers. It is cost-effective and I also took a photo. To the east of the dance hall are street stalls, "Guangdong-Guangxi Tongxin Corridor" (the corridor on the bank of the stream) and the wind and rain bridge; to the west is the "China Long Hair Science and Technology Museum", but I didn't go in due to time constraints. The word count exceeds the limit, so continue in the last picture.
The Longji Terraces scenic area is very large, mainly consisting of three villages: Jinkeng Hongyao Village, Ping'an Zhuang Village, and Longji Ancient Zhuang Village. Just navigate to the scenic area visitor center from Guilin. If you drive yourself, you only need to buy a ticket for 80 yuan, and if you don't drive yourself, you need to buy a scenic bus ticket. Generally, most tourists go to Ping'an Zhuang Village. This village was developed earlier and has more complete facilities. It is closer to the gate of the scenic area, but the last few kilometers of winding mountain roads approaching the village are very dangerous. Ping'an Zhuang Village Terraces mainly have two viewing platforms: Jiulong Wuhu and Qixing Banyue. There is an electric car to the Jiulong Wuhu viewing platform at the Ping'an Village parking lot. The one-way trip is 30 yuan and the round trip is 55 yuan. From the Jiulong Wuhu viewing platform, you can walk on the flat road for 20 minutes to the Qixing Banyue viewing platform. You can walk down the mountain to the parking lot for about 30 minutes, or you can return to Jiulong Wuhu and take the electric car back to the parking lot. Most of the tourists who drive themselves go to Jinkeng for accommodation. They can stay in Tiantouzhai and Dazhai. Jinkeng mainly has No. 1 Observation Deck Xishan Shaole, No. 2 Observation Deck Qianceng Terrace, and No. 3 Observation Deck Jinfoding. Tiantouzhai is very close to No. 1 and No. 2 Observation Deck, and Dazhai is closer to Jinfoding. The cable car parking lot near Dazhai has a cable car to Jinfoding, which costs 60 yuan for a one-way trip and 110 yuan for a round trip. It is recommended to stay in Tiantouzhai, where many homestays can park. I drove from Guilin, arrived at the tourist center at noon, and stayed at Tiantouzhai on a 27-kilometer winding mountain road. I visited No. 2 and No. 1 Observation Deck in the afternoon. The next day, I drove to the cable car parking lot, went up and down the No. 3 Observation Deck, and then went to Ping'an Zhuangzhai, took a battery car to Jiulong Wuhu, walked to Qixing Banyue, and then walked down the mountain to the parking lot, which ended the tour successfully.
Longsheng Longji Terraces are located in Heping Township, Longsheng County, Guilin. It is a large-scale terraced field group in Guilin. There are several ancient ethnic minority villages here, where ethnic minorities such as the Yao and Zhuang live. The more famous villages in the scenic area are Ping'an Village, Jinkeng Dazhai, Huangluo Yao Village, etc. Longji Terraces are more convenient to drive to because there is only one narrow road in and out. Staying in a homestay in Yao Village for one night, watching the sunrise and sunset of Longji Terraces and the misty scenery in the morning, tasting farm dishes such as rice fish and bamboo tube rice in the homestay, and experiencing the customs of ethnic minorities is the most correct way to visit Longji Terraces. We went to the Golden Buddha Peak Observation Deck, where we overlooked the panoramic view of the terraces and had a very wide view. At sunset, the light was not good. Looking at the misty peaks in the distance, looking at the smooth terraces spread out layer by layer, and the Yao villages scattered among the mountains, the picturesque scenery was unobstructed, which made people feel suddenly enlightened!
